Introducing my book – Momentum: 90 Days of Marketing Tips and Motivation to Kick-Start your Business

Just over a year ago I stopped blogging on LinkedIn and other platforms and decided to reallocate the time I spent blogging to writing a book. That book is called ‘Momentum: 90 Days of Marketing Tips and Motivation to Kick-Start your Business’, available now for pre-order on Amazon and being released officially on August 22nd.

But allow me to take a minute or two to give you the back story…

I’ve worked with many of you in some capacity or another, most during my corporate career and some since. I loved my career and still hold the companies I worked for in very high regard, never hated Mondays and I wouldn’t trade the people I’ve met and the experiences I’ve had for the world. But I always knew my corporate career was training ground for the businesses I would one day own. I knew that the day I left university, and the day I started my first job as a Marketing Assistant back in 2006. My plan was always to work my way up the corporate ladder for 10 years, learn as much as I could and then do something on my own. I’m not one of those people that believe entrepreneurship is the be all and end all of success, for some it’s an absolutely disastrous decision! But for me personally I could never see anything else truly fulfilling me professionally. So, circumstances would have it that in 2015 just shy of 10 years into my career, the perfect opportunity arose for me to transition.

But here’s the kicker…

Despite having the experience, the plan, the advisers and the proficiency; the transition from employment to self-employment was still a shock to my system for reasons that I address in the book, but won’t go into here. Suffice to say if I’m honest it took me about a year to transition, in that time I launched my business acquired clients but didn’t really find my groove and settle on my business model until about a year in.

So, I figured there may be others like me; not short of knowledge or experience, perfectly capable of getting a business off the ground, convinced that self-employment was the right move for them, but still feeling uncomfortable with the process. Entrepreneurs who are grateful for all the encouragement there is out there and the fabulous freedom and earning potential it offers, but who also want someone to address the real issues and provide tangible, practical advice along with some motivation to help them build their businesses from the ground up. People who, like me, want a little less fluff and fanfare and more meat to equip them for this journey. These are the people I wrote the book for.

The Book…

The book emerged from my own experience both as a marketer and a business owner, and the view that starting a business is great but what business owners really need is momentum. In the book I assert that Momentum comprises two things 1) Marketing - because if you don't know how to promote your business effectively it will go nowhere fast 2) Motivation - because if you can't stay motivated and pushing your business forward in the good times and bad, it's likely to die a premature death.

Essentially the book is a buffet of practical marketing tips and motivating insights to help business owners get their businesses off the ground, during that crucial transition period and those first weeks and months of starting a business.

(Yes the url is a clue to the next project I have up my sleeve and given that I was Head of UK Marketing for 1&1 when they launched the new top level domains, an ntld only seemed right :))

The Business…

Over the course of my career I’ve worked with businesses large and small, but my passion is working with start-ups. I pretty much got tired of seeing people launch great ideas with really poor marketing strategies and decided to do something about it by setting up my own business, Katrina Douglas Marketing, in 2015.

Through this business I provide marketing coaching for new business owners and marketing training and consultancy services for established businesses.

If you have a requirement that you feel I can serve please don’t hesitate to get in touch.

Last but not least, if you fancy buying the book for yourself or a friend here’s the direct link to Amazon https://www.amazon.co.uk/Momentum-Marketing-Motivation-Kick-Start-Business-x/dp/1999798309

Well, that's it for now, but I will be blogging here more often from now on :)

Best, Katrina
