Introducing MedDrop: A New Way to Support Medication Adherence in Detroit and Wayne County

The Detroit Wayne Integrated Health Network (DWIHN) is excited to announce the MedDrop Program, a new partnership with Genoa Healthcare aimed at helping community members stay on track with their medications. Here’s what you need to know:

What is MedDrop?

  • Medication Delivery, Right to You: A designated technician brings prescriptions directly to a member’s home, 365 days a year.
  • Safe and Convenient: During a quick 15-minute visit, the technician observes the member as they self-administer their medications, helping ensure prescriptions are followed correctly.
  • Ongoing Support: They check in about side effects, answer questions, and monitor for any changes in mood or behavior.

Why Does This Matter?

  • Improving Outcomes: Staying consistent with medication is a key part of successful treatment. “Med Drop helps us directly support our members in the most impactful ways possible,” said James White, DWIHN President and CEO.
  • Avoiding Hospitalizations: “The MedDrop Program helps to keep participants out of the psychiatric hospital,” added Diane Cranston, Genoa Healthcare’s MedDrop Program Manager.

How Does It Benefit You?

  • Tailored Education: Members get personalized guidance on their medications.
  • Proactive Care: Early detection of any issues—such as side effects—prevents bigger problems down the road.
  • Accessible for All: If you or someone you know struggles with managing medications, this program can offer a vital safety net.
