Introducing me!
Hello! Thank you for being here. My name is Brooke, and this is my very first blog post. But first, why am I here?
Not in a philosophical sense, but literally, why have I decided to do this? This is incredibly outside my comfort zone, and if I do decide to click “Publish,” well then that will be a victory in itself.
To get straight to it though, I am here to share my experiences – as a novice in the sports industry, as a student finishing up my MBA, as a friend learning how to stay connected when apart, as a mediocre runner, as a music LOVER, as a traveler, as an animal enthusiast, as a learner, and so on – all while navigating the fearless and fearful 20s.
This first post is meant to act as an introduction. Each week, I plan on filling you in on the current events in my life, touching on past adventures or lessons, and expressing my hopes for the future.
At this exact moment in my life, I am in – or rather on – Long Island at a coffee shop full of chatter and the familiar background noise of an alternative rock radio. I am here because I am the Community Relations Intern for the Long Island Nets, which is the G League affiliate of the Brooklyn Nets. I feel like the luckiest person in the world because I work in a department of people passionate for change, success, and true impact.
Next week, I will dive more into this role and the factors behind the choice to move (by myself, ah!) from my home in Leawood, Kansas and my school in Tulsa, Oklahoma to New York for the summer. But, like a broken record, more on the “why” later . . .
In the meantime, I plan on ending each post with my favorite quote or lesson from the past week (whether that be light-hearted or life-changing) and of course, my song of the day.
To kickstart this blog though, I must share my favorite quote of all time, which is:
领英推荐
“Do it scared.”
My love for this quote derives from my appreciation for the Yes Theory group and their motto of Seek Discomfort; that “life’s greatest moments and deepest connections exist outside of your comfort zone,” and that strangers are solely just strangers you have not yet met.
My life right now is a direct result of doing it scared, and I couldn’t be happier. Doing it scared simply means to embrace fear, and in fact, welcome it with open arms. It is the courage to dare to take action, because if not, you will never know what’s on the other side.
This, by chance I must admit, leads perfectly to my favorite song of all time which features a very on-theme quote: “fear is a friend who’s misunderstood” from
The Heart of Life by John Mayer
I heard this song for the first time about ten years ago when I was only in middle school, and it has been a comfort song ever since. To share my first anecdote, John Mayer sang The Heart of Life during his encore at a 2019 show that I attended, and I was convinced he sang it just for me (as if).
As the weeks come and go, hopefully I will learn how to properly conclude a post. But for now, thank you for reading, and see you next week.
All the best to you!!!!

8 个月Looking forward to your future posts! “Do it scared” is great advice, If I could talk to my 22 year old self, I would say “Take more risks.” Ryan Holiday’s book “Courage is Calling” is a good related resource.
