Introducing LighterHR: Revolutionizing the way your business navigates HR challenges.
We spend a lot of time writing about all sorts of different HR topics but we thought it was time that we wrote a little about ourselves.
When people are looking for an HR provider, one of the things that they should look for is a company that they want to work with. HR issues can be quite challenging to navigate so the last thing you need is to be trying to navigate them with a company that just doesn’t seem to get your business or your approach.
By telling you a bit more about LighterHR, we’re hoping you’ll be able to assess whether we sound like the type of company you’d like to work with.
Our History
LighterHR was set up in 2010 with purpose of providing expert HR services to small and medium sized businesses.
It was clear to us that businesses of all sizes can face significant HR challenges. The difference is that the large companies tend to have large HR departments to help them. That’s not the same for small and medium sized businesses.
There’s another challenge that small and medium sized businesses face. They need the full spectrum of HR expertise but they don’t need it all of the time or even particularly regularly. Sometimes they need an HR Administrator, sometimes an HR Manager and sometimes an HR Director.
We wanted our HR consultancy services to be able to provide small and medium sized business with access to the HR expertise they need as and when they need it.
What We Do
So that’s where we started. Many of our first clients were small businesses and we engaged with them to fix issues – whether that was creating contracts or handbooks or dealing with disciplinary or grievance situations. Then we started to get enquiries about on-going support agreements so we moved to providing that service and then we got enquiries for fully outsourced HR so we started providing that service too.
We now have a large portfolio of clients, covering pretty much every sector you can imagine. We still deal with small, one-off pieces of work, have a solid base of outsourced clients and also engage with an increasing number of large projects where we provide extra capacity and expertise to in-house HR teams of larger businesses.
How we do it
Regardless of the size or type of work we’re doing, we are driven by two key beliefs:
- HR really doesn’t have to be complicated
- HR adds business value when done properly
We really like this people stuff. Strange as it may sound, we enjoy the complexities of employment law and working out how to help businesses achieve their overall objectives through the best use of their people.
We enjoy making sure that HR processes and policies are both practical and protect our clients. We take pride in helping our clients to understand their actual risk in tricky situations rather than their perceived risk and these two things are often very different.
We aren’t a call centre environment. We take the time to get to know our clients and really understand their business. This means that the support we can give our clients is much more tailored to their business culture and objectives but it also makes the work far more rewarding for our team. Talking of which...
Our Team
This is a subject on which we could write for hours! We really do believe that we have put together an exceptional team. Everyone is technically excellent, that really should go without saying. However, when we recruit we look for people who our clients will actually want to speak with.
We don’t want clients to feel “Oh no! I need HR help so I suppose I’m going to have to call LighterHR”. Our clients call us because they know we will be able to help them, and they know it will be an interesting and productive conversation.
We can only achieve this by hiring people who are engaging, knowledgeable and great to talk to. There are many times when our clients are calling us about very difficult situations and we look to hire individuals who can offer a sense of perspective and reassurance rather than individuals who will create drama and additional stress.
Our team is incredibly important to us. We ensure they receive regular feedback on how they are doing, and we have our own career development framework that supports their personal and professional growth. We learn from each other all of the time and have created a culture where anyone can ask anybody anything without fear of judgement.
So that’s us. We really enjoy what we do. We love getting to know our clients and providing them with excellent service.
