Introducing: Laura McCloskey, Director, Head of Accounting and Taxation at Vantru

1.???? How long have you worked in the corporate service industry?

?I have worked in the corporate service industry for six years. Prior to joining VANTRU, I qualified as a Chartered Accountant through the Institute of Chartered Accountants in Ireland, with a specialism in audit. This qualification opened the doors to travel, and I have spent considerable time abroad gaining invaluable experience. I was a sole practitioner in British Columbia, Canada with a varied client portfolio, and exposure to US/Canadian cross border issues, as well as local compliance and taxation matters. This additional exposure added to my growing skillset acquired as part of a large cross border practice in Northern Ireland.

?2.???? When did you join Vantru and what is your job role?

?I joined VANTRU in November 2017 after returning to Ireland with a young family and now hold the title of Director, Head of Accounting and Taxation.

?3.???? What do you enjoy most about your job?

?I enjoy the varied nature of our client portfolio and learning more about the industries and regulatory environments they operate within. Each day brings its challenges, but also the opportunity to learn. I enjoy working on projects in conjunction with trusted key advisors in specialist areas as it helps expand our knowledge base and global reach.

?I also enjoy working as part of a dedicated team with similar goals and mindsets, whilst helping where needed and offering advice and direction to junior members.

?4.???? What does an average day look like for you?

?My day generally varies from week to week as our team is responsible for ensuring accounting and taxation compliance deadlines are met. We regroup at the start of each week and set out our key action points with appropriate delegation and review. Each day is a mix of client communication, team updates and internal practice matters.

?5.???? What advice would you give to a business regarding corporate services?

?The right corporate service provider will give you the time and comfort to focus on matters important to driving your business forward and achieving your goals. Having a trusted partner that can offer on the ground support on the day-to-day compliance matters, as well as key strategic advice or knowing when to engage a more specialist opinion, will feel like a seamless extension of your existing team!

?6.???? What are the most challenging aspects of your job?

?The most challenging aspects of my role include, keeping a range of varied projects moving on a busy schedule, and ensuring the team stay focussed and motivated to achieve both their personal and professional goals.

?7.???? What do you like to do in your spare time?

?In my spare time I enjoy travelling, trail running, horse riding, and any other activity that involves the great outdoors.

?I have four young children and enjoy spending time with them and their varied sporting outlets.

?I spent five years living in Vancouver, Canada and almost four years in Brisbane, Australia.
