Introducing “For Kids Like Me”: A Documentary Film Project by MyFairyGodParents.org
I’m thrilled to share that MyFairyGodParents.org (MFGP), a 501?(3) nonprofit organization that I founded, is currently in development on a powerful documentary film titled “For Kids Like Me” (#FKLMdoc). This project delves deep into the impact of mandatory minimum sentencing laws on families of incarcerated individuals, with a specific focus on the children affected.
The Inspiration
The film draws inspiration from the experiences of my daughter, Anyé Young, the author of “Teen Guide to Living With Incarcerated Parents.” Anyé’s personal journey and resilience have fueled the creation of this impactful documentary. Through her eyes, the film aims to shed light on the challenges faced by justice-impacted youth—children who navigate life with parents behind bars.

Why It Matters
The incarceration of parents profoundly impacts their children. Through “For Kids Like Me,” we aim to amplify their voices, humanize their struggles, and advocate for change. By sharing their stories, we hope to foster empathy, understanding, and support within our communities.
