MACRO THOUGHTS
Newsweek
PLY: While it may last a while, it strikes me the fast track to some future certain electoral defeat is to mislead the electorate. This has a habit of catching up with the misleading party eventually. True, maybe the Democratic Party are just incompetent but either way it’s hard to draw a narrative backwards that convinces me locking Joe Biden in a basement and barely campaigning in 2020 was anything other than a conspiracy to defraud the public that Joe Brezhnev was fit for high office.
(qv the UK CON-servatives who after a generation of campaigning for something often not unadjacent to liberty and free markets, treated the UK public as imbeciles and governed from the centre left and thus got annihilated by what will be an even worse left wing government…).
Where does this leave the election? PLY noted a long while ago “if one octagenarian stands, they lose. If they both stand they all lose.” The dynamics post convention are that the scenario now may be more one of “age and treachery will overcome youth and exuberance?”
La Harris has her positives but at the same time, it’s hard to really feel any confidence in a Dem machine where a vast number of folks have identified as ‘discredited’ through dumb stuff like supporting Biden until it was just too obvious and then made matters worse by writing idiotic articles / columns / social media posts trying to suggest Biden has a legacy (how do we know he was ever in charge?) and is a good man for having been forced out of his re-election campaign when the Potemkin village was a proven facade.
This isn’t BTW party political, it’s just a straight observation. Treat your customers as idiots and some day they will decide to try another brand.
QV The Daily Beast (as a random example) on June 25th: “The 81-year-old president has a gruelling schedule and there’s no evidence of cognitive decline.”
Sounder insights, one might call it mature journalism with perspective, from Dominic Lawson who discusses his own father candidly as well as providing some insights I was not aware of about Joe Biden’s health history: The 78-Year-Old Donald Trump Shows That Age Is Not Joe Biden’s Problem: The Issue Is Much Worse Than That …And Lawson is spot on. In calling ‘ageism’ like ‘fire!’ the Democratic Party has demonstrated a rather narrow focus in and of itself. I am not alone in not caring what age the US President is, I just want them to be able to think consistently. Many many folks exist at much greater ages than Joe Brezhnev who are vastly more capable in their cognitive powers. As Lawson notes “what counts is acuity not age.”
In respect of the man we described?—?with pinpoint accuracy?—?Joe Brezhnev, years ago has been POTUS with ‘barely comatose’ approval ratings?—?an aggregate of 40.1% (QV Obama 47.1%).
Per se the tragedy of the Biden Presidency is he had a back story?—?a hard worker, a great networker, with family tragedies but yet he pushed ahead. The other tragedy of the Biden era is he will leave office with a record of pure play failure throughout his term to date?—?and the last 6 months don’t look good, even if his kitchen cabinet of Lady Macbeth and the first crackhead have ideas of their own.
Hence, the macro background to the Kamala Harris phenomenon as given by Newsweek: Biden Isn’t A Hero?—?He’s A Failing Politician Who Saw The Writing On The Wall .
IN BIGWORLD
From Exchange Invest 3023: Tuesday, July 23rd:
Given the Mainstream media remains a source of abjectly useless reporting, I can only presume my own theory holds water. I reckon the Democratic Party isolated COVID suffering Joe Brehnev in Nancy Pelosi’s ice cream fridge until he gave up on his re-election campaign.
That said, Kamala Harris had a good start as Presidential nominee?—?subject only to the vicissitudes of the currently discredited Democratic party.
Moving on from that party’s institutional elder abuse which kept Joe Brezhnev on the campaign trail years past his sell by date, Kamala noted in her first stump speech yesterday that Brezhnev had an “unmatched legacy” as President. That’s a terrific remark to unite the American people.
If VP Harris can just get US voters to agree on “unmatched legacy” meaning a positive, she ought to be a shoo in for the presidency.

President Or First CryptoLord of the?US?
For those who despair of the completely inadequate mainstream media in the US, there is always the crypto media which almost makes MSM look like it retains perspective and insight.
The vanity of the crypto kiddies knows no bound. Social media seems abuzz with two key streams right now?—?one is the ludicrous drivel of supposedly intelligent people who only just realised Joe Brezhnev is entirely unfit for high office but are convinced they can shout praise from the rooftops to support his clear ouster by a panicked band of pillocks. On the other side of SM, there’s a vast raft of endless drivel where folks are upset / speculating / ululating on US politics and how this impacts crypto… In the midst of this, Decrypt reports ‘Joe Biden Is Dead’ Meme Coins Are Spreading As Quickly As The Wild Rumors with the top two (BIDEAD $660,000 and BIDONE $567,000) making a cumulative market cap total of over $1.2 million.

Of Interest
As always, a review of interesting reading to provoke thoughts and consideration… Not sure we agree with much of it….but it’s thought-provoking!
PLY: My Favourite fun fact about Kamala Harris is that in an election Joe Brezhnev has framed as all about protecting democracy, Kamala has never won a single delegate to the Presidential nomination, despite campaigning in 2019 but withdrawing before the primaries even got under way.
It’s understandable how she has effervesced her way to the Presidential nomination but hardly a glowing example of democratic transparency? #AskingForAFriend.
NB In his kinda farewell speech?—?as he handed the campaign baton to Kamala but sought to remain rooted in the White House (Biden Calls His Decision To Step Aside From 2024 Race A Matter Of Defending Democracy | CNN Politics ) it appeared as if Joe Brezhnev was auditioning for a future career as an ASMR artist.
Another fun fact, is VP Harris has set a record for tiebreaking: Vice President Harris Breaks Nearly 200-Year-Old Record For Senate Tiebreaker Votes, Casts Her 32nd . She ended 2023 on 33 tiebreaks cast.
Meanwhile, Kamala gets the cash from the Biden-Harris campaign as she is part of that ticket, which is very handy (What Happens To Biden’s Campaign Cash If He Drops Out? ).
With her Californian roots (apart from a childhood spent partly in Montreal), it may not be so surprising that Kamala Harris Wants To Be America’s First Silicon Valley President. She Has Tech’s Support (CNN Business). For more Kam facts, As She Is Poised To Be The Democratic Nominee, Here Are 5 Facts About Kamala Harris (NPR).
The Curious Rise Of Kamala Harris runs the headline in The Spectator where Biden voter Kate Andrews raises the curious word salads of the VP albeit I warm to anybody in a modest way who can say things (as she does frequently) like “I just love Venn diagrams. ‘It’s just something about those three circles, the analysis about where there is the intersection. Right?”
However if she has control of the nuclear football, do we have time for her to go “draw that as a Venn diagram again!” as she pontificates on possible outcomes for an impending ICBM attack?
Anyway, here’s a good podcast to listen to from John Hulsman The Circus Is In Town, But Harris’s Left-Wing Record Will Doom Her With The American People , in which he notes 6 key facets to Kamala Harris which he thinks undermine her ultimate Presidential election prospect
1) The southern border immigration debacle which she has singularly failed to resolve…
2) Her favouring BLM, which has left a lot of credibility in politicians still on its knees long after the protagonists stood up to discover some fabulously shady accounting practices… Or as Hulsman notes “Bailing out criminals in Minnesota doesn’t appeal to soccer moms” which also applies to:
3) Kamala Harris refused to criticise those who argued to defund the police, resulting in some truly awful metropolitan failures.
4) She is a keen supporter of a green new deal?—?AKA a vast govt programme to remove gas powered cars / stoves and kill air conditioning. No, I can’t believe the American constitution only protects firearms, either, it strikes me that aircon would be an even higher priority to protect for US citizens.
5) VP Harris supports cancelling student debts, aka discriminating against the honest folks of older generations who loyally paid theirs off.
6) Her foreign policy is fundamentally more closely aligned with the likes of “The Squad” in being pro Hamas than Joe Brezhnev who, despite not liking Bibi Netanyahu on a personal level retains the reflexive Democrat support of Israel. (NB The first time as VP she did not preside as Speaker of the Senate when there was a foreign dignitary speaking during her term came last week when Netanyahu addressed Congress?—?make of that what you will).
Many analysts including Hulsman note that looking at Harris’ record in detail, she is the most left wing candidate ever running for President, consistently on the far left of the country and “and” as Hulsman notes, “we remain a centre right country.”
It’s marvellous to see a female candidate for President again and as a citizen of the UK which has managed multiple female leaders and those from minority communities, it’s good the US are getting closer to a woman in the top office. Albeit on balance, I am struggling to see that VP Harris can turn around the wreckage of the Brezhnev-Harris White House from 2020-date in the next few months.
And finally, a joke courtesy of the fine folks at PopB***h:
“Knock knock.
Who’s there?
Kamala.
Kamala who?
You endorsed her, sir.”
