Introduction

Today we are pleased to introduce you to Juliana Samuel.

Juliana is a highly accomplished Human Resources professional with over fourteen years of experience in the field and a former HR Director. She is also a 2016 MBA graduate of the University of Leicester, a Certified Hospitality Trainer (CHT), and a Member of the Chartered Institute of Personnel Development (MCIPD).

After her position as HR Director was made redundant in 2020, she started her own HR business to help provide professional HR services to small businesses.

Q. What events led you to this path and how long have you been in business?

A. ?My deep passion to make a difference in people’s lives has always been my reason for choosing HR as my field. ?

Q. How did you come up with the name for your business?

A. Simple, it is my family name added to what I do.?

Q. Who has been your biggest loudest cheerleader on your journey?

A. My children and three close friends are now my loudest cheerleaders closely, followed by?the HRCarib Forum community.

Q. What is the one biggest challenge you have faced so far and how did you overcome it?

A. My biggest challenge is marketing and business growth.

I am presently trying to form partnerships and working on a marketing plan especially for my software, the HRHelper.

Q. Did the pandemic affect your business in anyway i.e. did you have to implement a Plan B due to Covid-19?

A. The pandemic actually gave birth to my business.

Q. What are your top 3 goals for the future?

A. Mytop 3 goals for the future are:

1. Grow my client base

2. Be the top HR software provider in the Caribbean

?3. Hire people to work with me in my weak areas such as marketing.

Q. Name one thing that you currently do to go above and beyond your clients’ expectations.

A. I constantly try to find new and better ways to meet my client’s needs always, to create a WOW effect and a lasting impression.

Q. What was the best advice you ever received and who gave it to you?

A. ?It was to start my own business, given by a close friend.

A. I listen to YouTube videos to help me become better in what I am not very good at.?

Q. What is something most people do not know about you?

A. ?That I have a very deep passion for what I do, in fact, I love HR.?

Q. What advice would you offer to anyone thinking of becoming a full-time entrepreneur?

A. ?It takes time to see results, but do not give up, and always ensure that what you offer is better than your competitors.

Q. You also found time to develop HRHelper, an HR software package especially for those working in the Caribbean - what led to its creation?

A. Yes, I developed my own HR software to simplify the tedious and manual HR process. This software is tailored to our practices in the Caribbean. Often time regional businesses use software that is not developed or tailored for our region. So for example, our vacation calculation is different to what happens in America, and most software does not make any allowance for that. However, my software, the HRHelper, meets all these specific HR Caribbean needs.

A. I provide HR consultancy and help businesses set up proper HR structures, such as developing and implementing proper HR policies and procedures to facilitate transparency, efficiency and productive work culture.
