Introducing the Huffs! (edited)

Introducing the Huffs! (edited)

Worth editing this to say that the LinkedIn police have found and (presumably) deleted these profiles. I wont delete this post though, the sentiment remains.

Everyone’s so serious all the time! We all need a bit of a joke from time to time, right? Is LinkedIn the right place for that? And is this too many questions to ask at the start of a blog?

The background to this blog is a blog found by clicking here, from a guy called Steve Levy who, to summarise, doesn’t like fake profiles – he says they de-value the LinkedIn platform and undermine people using it to do business properly on a daily basis.

Well that’s just not right. They’re funny and funny never hurt anyone. In fact, the words harmless, fun and jokey spring to mind when talking about fake profiles - and rightly so.

It worries me to think that people are so serious that they feel aggrieved enough to demand systematic searching and removal of all fake profiles after stumbling on a ‘Roger Rabbit’ or ‘Jerry Mouse’. Sure the fake profiles that are used to try and con you, now that’s not funny – but we can all recognise the difference between a hilarious spoof and a conman, can’t we?

Given this intro – I want to introduce you to a profile I follow. Now it might not be fake (although it’s definitely based on a movie character) but it sure is funny.

The world seems to be falling apart at the seams, so, this kind of thing is my kind of thing. It’s important we don’t get rid of humour and fun and it’s important that LinkedIn remains this way.

Of 347+ million members some are bound to be fake. But, how many more never login, didn’t complete their profile or refuses to connect with anyone - many many more I should imagine. So, chill out and enjoy ‘The Huffs’!

Based on the much loved film ‘Step Brothers’, a whole ecosystem of individuals has cropped up and each profile is as funny as the last..

If you haven’t seen Step Brothers – it consists of an odd pair of 40 year olds who live with their down-trodden parents and who are brought together by the parents marrying. The full plot can be found here including spoilers.

It’s an excellent Will Farrell comedy vehicle and worth checking out if you like his type of films OR you can just follow all the characters on here!

Derek Huff is the super successful brother of the ‘step brothers’ (played by Will Farrell and John C. Reilly). A helicopter-leasing agent (who would want me to promote him as the biggest and most successful agent on the western coast)! – His profile seems only to troll other users in a way that you can’t help liking. His is also the most active and funniest - so is well worth following.

Dr Robert Doback M.D, married Nancy Huff-Doback (both profiles linked - just click their names!) They interact with Derek and his posts on a regular basis. In fact – you’ll even find a useful Apple Crumble recipe as a blog from Nancy. So, it’s informative as well as funny.

Robert is Dale Doback's father and Nancy is the mother of Brennan. These two guys are the 'Step Brothers' that the film is named after and, yes, they both have profiles as well!

Brennan and Dale spend most of their time getting hammered for being ‘useless’ or forgetful in some way. Note the Bruce Lee and Samurai warrior banners! References, Skills and Interests are all worth paying a visit here.

Other family members include Little Tommy Huff, downtrodden wife of Derek: Alice Huff and top helicopter salesman Randy POW (amazing) among others and they are all worth following for a little day brightener!

And the best thing about these profiles is the way they don’t sit passive waiting to be discovered, they get out there and interact with LinkedIn users every day. Not only that, but they do it in the way the characters in the film act – the best ones to watch out for are Derek Huff’s bolshie and sassy responses to people's posts including things like this

Needless to say – it brightens my day. I find it in-offensive, funny and I'm not being sent unwelcome and unsolicited sales rubbish. It’s just comedy using a different platform and I say ‘why not’!

If you liked my post - click like and share! Brighten someone else's day.

Hey Simon, quite a good article; it seems to foretell the (un)dynamic culture of LinkedIn posting, which gets Business Insider a write-up here: https://www.businessinsider.com/linkedin-cringe-how-to-post-new-job-hiring-resume-2024-3
