Google is pushing forward with the implementation of Brand Indicators for Message Identification (BIMI) to enhance Gmail security and improve user experience. BIMI was initially introduced in 2021 and required senders to use strong authentication and verify their brand logo to display it as an avatar in emails. The latest update adds a checkmark icon for senders who have adopted BIMI, making it easier for users to identify legitimate messages and avoid falling victim to impersonators.

BIMI is crucial for several reasons, one of which is generating up to 15% more engagement when implemented correctly. This increase in engagement is primarily due to the trust established between the sender and the recipient when a verified logo is displayed, assuring users that the message comes from a legitimate source.

By implementing BIMI, Google aims to create a more secure email ecosystem, allowing users to easily differentiate between authentic messages and spam. Strong email authentication not only protects users from unwanted emails but also enables senders to leverage their brand trust, creating a more immersive and reliable experience for the readers.

This update is available to all Google Workspace customers, legacy G Suite Basic and Business customers, and users with personal Google Accounts. To take advantage of BIMI for your outgoing emails to Gmail and other platforms, ensure that your organization has adopted Domain-based Message Authentication, Reporting, and Conformance (DMARC) and validated your logo with a Verified Mark Certificate (VMC), issued by a Certification Authority such as Entrust or DigiCert.

Google's efforts in implementing BIMI reflect their commitment to enhancing security and providing a better email experience for all users. BIMI is an essential step forward in the ongoing battle against spam and phishing attacks, fostering trust between senders and recipients, and ultimately leading to a safer, more engaging email ecosystem.
