Introducing Gargi Biswas

Tell us about yourself

"Hello, everyone," For those of you who don't know me, my name is Gargi Biswas. My educational background includes an undergraduate degree in Chemical Engineering from GIET Gunupur, an MBA in Marketing from NMIMS Mumbai, and a certificate in Digital Marketing from MICA Ahmedabad. I also hold credentials as a Six Sigma Black Belt project manager and a Scrum Master.

I've been in the industry of marketing chemicals for use in industrial water treatment, automating processes, providing digital services from a distance, and managing both products and services for over a decade. My previous employers, Ecolab and Hydranautics, are market leaders in Industrial Water Management Chemicals and Product solutions; I bring this expertise to my current position at TORQ Commodities.

Personally, I enjoy penning articles and blogs and advising the younger generation on their academic and professional trajectory.

What attracted you to the role at TORQ commodities?

TORQ Commodities is a new experience for me. For over 12 years, I have worked in areas that are more closely related to my basic educational background of Chemicals, Water, and Industrial Automation. One of the main reasons I selected TORQ Commodities was that it is a completely new profession with a lot of opportunity to learn. It is one of the fastest growing commodity trading enterprises in Western Africa, and demonstrating growth in a struggling economy is difficult. It takes a lot of bravery, intellectual process, and sincerity to demonstrate company success in areas where conducting business isn't as easy as it is in wealthy countries. Apart from that, I always chose people when deciding to join an organisation, and I had a feeling of belonging even before joining the business, whether it was with Deepa Hegde, HR Manager, or Asheesh Anand, Commercial Director and Co-Founder.

What opportunities have you been presented with to grow within your field?

TORQ Commodities has been a roller coaster journey for me, and each hurdle has been a wonderful learning experience. I did things I had never done before, and TORQ gave me the opportunity to relearn a lot of things. My areas of expertise have always been data insights, traditional machine learning, business intelligence, and market research. At TORQ, I was able to develop my skill set by working on a brand new corporate website, corporate brochure, newsletter, marketing assistance for significant events, magazine publishing, social media management, and many other projects. My past expertise has really aided my move into a Brand Strategy and Positioning function.

How is TORQ impacting the food and agricultural sector and what excites you about this?

TORQ offers a distinct value proposition in that it begins its business process by knowing the client's particular demands and then provides exactly what the customer requires in terms of quality, cost, and timeliness. In terms of marketing, a good marketing attribute is to understand your customer's needs and then position your product/solution/service to suit those needs precisely. TORQ focuses on the core marketing characteristic in nations where food safety, security, and sustainability are challenging to accomplish for a variety of reasons, including economic, governmental, and climatic factors. TORQ's fundamental business concept is allowing a lot of developing nations to enhance their economic standards through the agricultural segment, but it's also about food equality for everyone. TORQ is contributing to the achievement of food equality for all.

How do you relate your personal career goals with TORQ’s vision?

Personally, I enjoy challenges, I enjoy working on new projects, and I despise being comfortable. From previous experience, I've learned that being comfortable blinded me to many things, both emotionally and professionally. Every day at TORQ is a learning opportunity; I am learning, failing, and improving. There is always the possibility of failing and rising again, and that is what is essential to me. TORQ Commodities has lofty commercial goals that are backed up by massive people-centric ambitions. So, while the company seeks exponential business growth, it also seeks to guarantee that its employees grow emotionally and professionally.

How do you define success at your work?

While I recognise that some will define success differently than I do, I define my own professional success as doing my very best job each and every day and making sure that success is a team effort. Success in the workplace, in my opinion, is not something that can be claimed for one person alone; rather, it must be achieved via collaboration and teamwork in order to benefit the entire business. To me, a fantastic illustration of success is sharing the stories of our workers with the world. Every project I've worked on has taught me something new, so each day I gain knowledge and experience, and that's success in my book.

What advice would you give to anyone thinking of applying for a position at Torq?

I am convinced that TORQ is doing more than simply commercial transactions, and everybody applying for TORQ should be as well. TORQ is establishing ties to secure everyone's success. It's all about ethical business procedures to develop long-term trustworthy partnerships, whether it's communicating with suppliers, making financial statements, positioning the brand, buying commodities, or supplying commodities. It is a rapidly expanding firm; a growth attitude is essential. This is not the organisation for anybody who feels they know everything. If you want to stay on the "Mountain of Stupidity," this is not the place for you.
