Introducing Forecasting

That doyen of business practice Scott Adams isn't far off. Each picture in that frame is worth paying attention to. I shall be introducing Forecasting at TFUG Pune the coming Saturday (17th July 2021). Forecasting is an important and large area within predictive analytics. Starting with a broad swathe of forecasting scenarios, I aim to quickly focus on univariate time series forecasting. The basics of time series is explained so some of the simpler material will be accessible to attendees. Starting with an equivalent of "Hello World" (++ of course) we will not shy away from contact with certain difficulties of forecasting.

Both ML and classical approaches will be presented, compared and (if time permits) contrasted, with examples in relatively straightforward R programming language. On a related note, forecasting is a strange beast and if you take it seriously is quite salutary and provides a good challenge for all of us in data analytics.
