Introducing FARO Orbis Hybrid Scanner
FARO Technologies proudly unveiled today at INTERGEO Expo and Conference in Berlin, the Orbis an innovative laser scanner that is poised to redefine the landscape of geospatial data acquisition by seamlessly integrating SLAM technology with terrestrial scanning methodologies & Flash capabilities. This solution sets a new benchmark in the realm of precise, efficient, and comprehensive data collection.
Precision in Motion, Simplicity in Action
With the launch of the Orbis, FARO brings forth on its promise of enhanced precision & range with an accuracy of 5mm and 120 meters range while in SLAM capture mode, & an accuracy of 2mm with 80 meters of range in Flash TLS mode. Furthermore, the Orbis exhibits a capability of capturing 640k points per second, featuring a powerful 32 channel laser.
To help achieve these results, the Orbis powered by GeoSLAM technology uses a brand new updated SLAM algorithm that debuts today as well.
The hardware improvements on the Orbis are significant but it is important to note that they are not everything & that you cannot shop for a laser scanner on specs alone!

A New Paradigm of Data Exploration
Emphasizing its monumental leap over its predecessors, the Orbis solidifies its unmatched flagship status within the industry, overshadowing the previously renowned GeoSLAM ZEB Horizon, which was equipped with a 16 channel laser, 100m range, and 300k points per second that first released in 2018. The introduction of the Orbis charts a new trajectory in various sectors, offering professionals in construction, engineering, forensics, and other fields an unparalleled tool for comprehensive and detailed geospatial data collection.
Unleashing a New Era of Hybrid Reality Capture
The FARO Orbis doesn’t merely scan; it crafts a bridge into a new era of hybrid reality capture, offering users a distinctive blend of SLAM technology, and high-speed Flash terrestrial scanning capabilities. This comprehensive approach allows users the choice to preform a traditional SLAM scan, a 15 sec FLASH terrestrial scan, or both all within the same jobsite.
