Why I started a market research company

I’ve learned over the years the quickest path to success is by helping others reach their goals. At its core, this is market research. Businesses engage market research to help with problems that need solutions and questions that need answers. Customers of market research are simply looking for data to provide a clear road to success.

The market research process has always seemed genuine and authentic to me. I knew it was my passion since I was a young 19-year-old entrepreneur-at-heart sitting in a consumer behavior class at college in Vermont. Unaware of the specifics of a career in market research before then, I was immediately hooked. As a student torn between statistics and marketing, market research became the perfect blend of the two.

Unlike many who never find their true passion in an endless career search, I’ve always felt fortunate knowing exactly what mine was at a young age. Every step I’ve taken in my career was one step closer to my ultimate goal of starting a market research company. I want to thank everyone who has helped me along the way - both those who have played both small and large roles. Nearly 15 years after I discovered market research, I remain an entrepreneur-at-heart but a little older, a little wiser, with a little less hair.

Most would pin me as a man of few words, but I prefer it this way. As a market researcher, my priority is to listen instead of speak. I love asking questions, exploring why, digging deeper and analyzing what motivates consumer behavior. Each day, each new client and each new project is a learning process for me and my clients. Market research is all about discovering new insights, and curiosity fuels my passion for market research. Statistics are a big piece of research, but the stories behind the numbers are the best part.

It goes beyond just numbers, data, and stories. It’s about building relationships with people who care enough to give you their time and feedback, regardless of whether it’s a 5-minute online survey, 30-minute phone interview, or 2-hour focus group. It’s about listening to constructive feedback and making improvements on products and services to enhance the customer experience. Simon Sinek may have said it best.

Introducing Drive Research

As a startup market research company, I am excited to use every bit of skill, experience, and knowledge I’ve gained in my career and apply it to something I love. I plan to find others who share my passion and vision as the company grows staff here in Central New York. A lot can be said for leaders who work hard, are genuine, and listen in business - to customers, prospects, and employees. Listening and acting in the best interest of the customer through market research creates a well-aligned strategy.

Drive Research was formed to respond to my customers’ needs. I am looking forward to getting my clients answers from those who matter most to them. The path to success for the business will be determined by how well Drive Research can help our customers help their customers. With market research, I wouldn’t want it any other way. At the very least, if I can inspire another 19 year-old entrepreneur-at-heart sitting in a classroom to pursue his or her life passion, Drive Research was worth my time.
