Introducing Chemistry Australia’s emerging leaders

Last year, we established the Emerging Leaders Advisory Council (ELAC) to support the professional development of our industry’s #futureleaders and advise the Chemistry Australia Board on future strategic opportunities for the growth and sustainability of our industry.?

18 people were selected to be part of the first ELAC and, over the next few months, we’ll profile each of our emerging leaders and their professional experience to celebrate the wealth of talent within our industry.

This fortnight, we’re featuring ELAC member Andrew Graczyk , Business Manager, Energy and Utilities, at DKSH Performance Materials Australia:

With an ambition to see the renaissance of the Australian manufacturing industry and of “catching the big one” - big fish that is, Andrew Graczyk is the Business Manager, Energy and Utilities for DKSH Performance Materials Australia.

His role involves the supply of raw materials to the Energy, Water and Remediation markets across Australia and New Zealand.?In simpler terms keeping the lights on, providing safe drinking water and help clean the environment.?

With a 20-year career in chemical raw material sales Andrew’s focus is on supplying modern day solutions via locally manufactured products or products sourced from all over the world.?

Andrew has largely concentrated on the commercial sector where he has built businesses and led teams.?Working across all markets in Australia including Food, Pharma and Personal Care, Andrew’s primary area of experience has been in polymers, construction, coatings and other specialty markets.

What are you most passionate about in your working life?

I enjoy working with manufacturing businesses, identifying opportunities, and finding solutions to challenging situations. ?Contributing to the evolution of chemicals and developing products from a concept through to implementation, offer the most rewarding experiences in my line of work.

What do you believe are the most important qualities of an emerging leader in your industry?

I believe modern leaders need to be open minded, lead by example, embrace change, and have the ability to connect with their colleagues across all levels of the organisation.

What do you want to be known for?

Being creative and inspirational, motivational, and leading by example.?Building the respect from my team and fellow work colleagues is important to me with recognition coming from my efforts and accomplishments in the chemical market.

What problem would you most like to find a solution to in your industry?

I would like to see manufacturing return to Australia across all sectors.?I’d like Australia to be less reliant on the rest of the world and be a major exporter of high-quality finished goods & services.

What do you do when you’re not working?

I love team sports and have continuously played football (soccer) since I was an infant.?On weekends I enjoy building things, landscaping and other DIY projects.?Lastly, I love spending time with the family, in particular boating and fishing when we get the opportunities.
