Introducing BuffrSpace | On-demand workspaces for remote and mobile workers

Hello! Welcome to the BuffrSpace blog.

Did you know that in emerging markets in Africa and Asia, about 15- 20% of the private workforce work remotely. And in developed markets, (think: the US or the UK) that number is significantly higher.

Thanks to the internet, an increasing number of businesses are adopting flexible work structures with employees, encouraging some of them to work remotely. This army of remote workers, now free to work from anywhere outside the office, face a challenge though. Now that they can work from virtually anywhere, where should they work?

Co-working spaces are not ubiquitous which introduces commuting, sometimes daily, into the remote worker’s routine. Working from home is unconducive for certain kinds of work and meetings. At the moment, we have a lot of remote workers working out of coffee shops or other public spaces which are also unconducive work environments (due to lack of privacy and noise pollution).

If only they could find convenient (think: nearby) and affordable work spaces.

On the other hand, a lot of entrepreneurs and businesses have surplus spaces in their offices and buildings, (such as desks, office cubicles and rooms, conference rooms or entire floors) that are currently being underutilised i.e. they are usually free and available. Some of these spaces get used perhaps once a week or not at all for a long while.

If only they could find a way to monetize these surplus spaces by short-leasing to people who would be happy to work off these spaces several times during the week.
