Introducing the BNIM mindful podcast
The new?BNIM mindful podcast?is a space for collaborative dialogues and discovery where we explore design and its connection to climate, community, and human experience. In each podcast, team members from across BNIM and our network will be hosting mindful conversation and design thinking to talk through some of Architecture and Design’s complex and important topics.
In recognition of Earth Day in April, BNIM’s Director of Sustainability and Regenerative Design, Jeremy Knoll, hosted the first episode of the?BNIM mindful | Earth Series*.?In Part 1 of the podcast episode, Jeremy is joined by Joyce Raybuck, associate principal at BNIM, to discuss?Greenhouse Gas Protocol standards, Scope 1, 2, and 3 emissions, BNIM’s 2023 Earth Day commitment, and steps for climate action. In Part 2, Jeremy meets with Bob Berkebile, principal emertius at BNIM, and Brian Weinberg, director for the Foundation for Regeneration, to discuss?offset markets,?ESG principles, and strategies for local impact in climate action.

As a new dedicated office, research space, center for community engagement, and model for inclusive design, the Tom and Ruth Harkin Center?engages the campus community in a dialogue of equity and empathy. Informed by guiding design principles categorized into Generous Space, Equitable Use, Individual Empowerment, and a Clear Path, the project aims to expand the industry's definition of sustainable design to encompass equity and inclusion. BNIM People + Culture
Sam Nordmeyer, an architectural designer at BNIM, was recently awarded an?AIA Iowa Impact Award?at this year’s Annual Spring Conference. The award recognizes architects, designers, and other collaborators on architectural projects that directly benefit social, humanitarian, community, or environmental causes.
Sam received an honorable mention in the student work category for the College of Design Greenhouse project, completed while he was a student at Iowa State University and a collaborator with Whitehead Design Workshop. The project was praised by the jury for its thoughtful design proposal and for addressing the important challenge of food insecurity. The jury also commended the research, analysis, and careful drawings of the project.?M O R E

BNIM's Director of Sustainability and Regenerative Design, Jeremy Knoll will present at the HD Expo and Conference, in Las Vegas, Nevada, on May 3 from 11 a.m. - 12 p.m. The session "Design Optimism | Innovative Strategies on Carbon, Climate, Planet" will feature a panel of design and hospitality industry professionals to discuss?innovation, perseverance, game-changing ideas, curiosity, and big thinking on important environmental shifts.
