Introducing the 10am Club
Jam Industries
Lifestyle brand | Bridging the gaps between city and coastal style - For all your journeys
By now you've probably heard all about the elite 5am club; the high performing, super car driving, self - destructing (in some cases) "success club"
Giving the impending economics of an ageing population, we feel the 'burnout' models of the 90s and 00s might not actually be the best route to sustainable success and longevity for our team as previously thought.
For several years now we have been enjoying our own model of time management, the 10am club. It's pretty simple, the JAM team starts work at 10am. Everyday. We can already hear the giggles from the ageing capitalists but no, this is not another free beer idea from WeWork.
This is a legitimate operating technique we have been using since opening our first store; the idea is to allow the team to 'win the morning'. We recognise that not everyone operates on the same circadian rhythm, and we live in amazing destinations that operate as adult playgrounds. Whether its yoga, surfing, running, sea swimming or simply sipping coffee in bed, we believe that by offering our team the chance to enjoy their mornings, they are more likely to arrive at work fulfilled with their day. Our hope is the positive energy created by the self - indulgent mornings, is then injected into our business.
Now you can read into this what you like.... yes, this is indeed a work philosophy created by a man that loves his running and a man that loves his surfing... but after 10 years of operating the model, we haven't burnt out, we still love what we are doing, and we're pretty sure the team like it too!
We will be sharing more on this soon.....
Excellent post. In my early career working in retail, we would arrive in the office at 8am, and if we left before 7pm, it was considered to be ‘leaving early’. It was a rubbish work ethic. Whilst everything took longer to complete due to the lack of supporting technology, the long hours had more to do with competing in the ‘guess how many hours I worked this week?’ competition that was prevalent across the company. The key to sustained success is getting the right blend of doing what you need to do, doing what you want to do, and enjoying how you do it. You sound to be on the right tracks. Credit to you.
