Intrinsic Motivation Commandments

With intrinsic motivation, you can live better and accomplish more. Rather than depend on external motivators, take more satisfaction in everything you do. To set your course to live a better life, here are some commandments that will help.
Have Meaningful Activities
Look for flow experiences. Have you heard about flow? This happens when you get so caught up in the occasion that you lose track of time. Everything seems effortless and you enter a blissful state.

Record your feelings. Start a journal to see what conditions trigger your flow state. It could be gardening or crunching numbers that get you fully engaged. You may find that you are a morning person or you work better after your dinner.
Make your goals specific. To keep your activities interesting, you need to learn and progression your life. Set yourself measurable targets and reasonable timelines.
Accept new challenges. Get into new areas to stretch your abilities. Try something that is demanding but within reach to test yourself.
Remove things from your schedule. It may benefit you to take things off of your to do list which will give you more time for the more important things in your life.
Make Activities Meaningful
Understand motivation. It is believed that most of the things that you do are a combination of intrinsic and extrinsic motivation. You value your paycheck but also your contribution to society.
Intense participation. You can make a boring task more interesting by making it into a game. When cleaning things out, guess how long something has been there or when it was last used for example.
Use deep learning. Retain more of what you are learning with the correct study methods. How does what you are learning relate to your own life? Write down a summary of what you have read and evaluate it.

Get support. You can make a tedious task more enjoyable by working in groups. Work with your neighbours to clean up a park. Whenever possible, share responsibility.
Make your purpose clear. Why are you doing things? If you want to lose weight, it is easier to exercise when you remember your goal.
Show enthusiasm. A job is less stressful when done with a positive attitude and a smile.
Share feedback. When you share constructive feedback, you can help others to feel motivated. Give good timely information on how to get better.
Look for variety in your day. You can stay fresh by moving between tasks. When you file documents for 15 minutes then do your expense report for 15 minutes, you may see that both projects become more pleasant.
Get enough sleep. You stay motivated and in good condition when you schedule regular breaks in your day. Build in time for play and to reflect. Try to stay to a regular sleep schedule but take naps if you need them.
Provide service to others. When you see how your work helps others, your own work becomes more fulfilling. Some careers and activities do this already. You may volunteer at an animal shelter, or use your nursing and teaching skills to help others daily. It is motivating to help others.
When your passions drive you, you can welcome a lot more fun into your life. When you can align your internal source of motivation with your daily activities, even washing dishes can become satisfying.
