#IntheShoesOf Mike Price
I joined Foot Locker in Europe 24 years ago. Foot Locker was looking for a computer operator to manage the reporting and computer system in its HQ. Foot Locker at the time was less than 80 stores in 5 countries with under 80 people in the office. From day one, Lew Kimble who was then Operations Director, asked me “what can you do to help Foot Locker grow in Europe?” In the next 3 years I was promoted three times to become the Manager of IT with a small team of 7 associates. A few years later took a step aside to run phase 1 of ecommerce for Europe. A year later came back to manage IT and then 3 years later promoted to Director of IT with a bigger team and Foot Locker then having more than 300 stores in 15 countries. Five years later promoted to Vice President of IT for Europe, which I held for 12 years. Three years ago, I requested to be moved into a new business area to challenge myself again and tackle new horizons as the company continued its journey. A year later I started working in Supply Chain and Innovation which has given me a totally new boost in my career.
Started working at Foot Locker: 13 February 1995
Latest role at Foot Locker: Senior Director Logistics systems Innovation
If you were walking in my shoes, you would enjoy the diversity of the challenges and need to be open to learning something new every day to keep going!
My recharge moment of the day: I walk an hour at night after dinner.
I listen to: While walking or in the car, I listen a great variety of podcasts about any topic I am in the mood for at the time. To relax I listen to Spotify Jazz, Blues and 70/80/90’s music.
My last purchase: Nike Triple Black 270 and adidas Ultra Boost Grey/White
The best lesson life has taught me: Enjoy the small things, buy memories and not things. Never give up. Hard work is needed to succeed.
My favorite health routine is: Eat healthy / Sleep well / Move
My bravest moment was: Moving from South Africa to the Netherlands 27 years ago.
Growing up I wanted to become: A farmer.
My favorite place on earth is: Wherever my children are and Africa.
Every feedback is a gift…my most unexpected gift was: During “Hell week” in the army, my Sargent said “Well done, you stayed true to yourself.”
What nobody knows about me: I am doing an online course to become a Game Ranger in Africa.
My mantra at work: Humor, question, listen and take ownership.
