Things I wish to whisper to candidates during an interview:
1. Smile, smile and be yourself. This is a time to discuss you and you cannot be without radiance as you do so. We on this other side of the panel are humans too and are elated when you can pass on your positive vibes to us.
2. Eye contact- please do not stare- mummy said it is rude! ?? but please look us in the eye as you market your great experience. Some men ogle at female panelists- not cool at all...so be on your best behaviour as you do this. Maybe some women ogle too but well I speak for myself. Of course the interviewer needs to be decently dressed????.
3. Audibility- works both ends. Please this is not your chance to be a road side preacher or announcer and be on top of your lungs as you address us. There was this one time a guy's voice was like thunder(not close to Thor's????) and we had to ask him to cool it off before security could think of storming in to save us. On the other hand, do not be whispering to your imaginary friends thinking that we can hear you. Your voice can sell you out or in-modulate it.
4. Answer what you are asked- as much as we are enthused to hear from you, this does not mean we have all day. Be quick to the chase and close in- crisp and sweet.
5. Ladies and gents please close that one button up your chest. We live in an eye candy society but this is not the place that your zipper and buttons should be screaming save me, save me!!????. Decency goes a long way.
6. Let the interviewer take the lead no matter how tempting it can get when they seem to slow down or be laid back. Do not take over??! Silence is golden so be comfortable with it if it does happen.
7. What is that distractive buzzing sound coming from your bag? Keep your phone on silent mode. Can get quite disruptive??.
8. Keep time but do not show up 2 hrs before time. The lobby is not your chill area as you sip on the free water and coffee. As much as you need this job, please show that your time is also important.
9. Yeap this is me confirming the rumour, we check out your social media and other links before meeting you. Well if you are the black out kind of a person, mhhhh well...we are tempted to dig deeper through other sources. But it sounds unfair right... to judge you based on your last crazy party...but that is what it is??.
10. We have eyes everywhere..from you entering the building to when you exit. Do not think being rude to the Askari/Guard is going to go unnoticed or you flirting with the receptionist. Do not turn the front office into your dressing mirror or salon. Mannerisms count??.
11. What is the hurry..slow down ?and let the interviewer finish with asking the question. We can see from your CV that you are close to genius and maybe your telepathy vibes are quite something but this is not the place. Do not jump in on the last 3 words of an interviewer. Also breath in and take a few seconds before responding. I know it can be a nerve wrecking time but it shall be over soon. Keep it locked and be confident ??till the end.
There is a lot more to say but this should do for today.
