With the upcoming (for a lot of Companies) upgrade to SAP HANA, we look at the Question of what Lessons have been learned from the original Implementation.
There was no doubt a learning curve back when, but since everyone likes to talk about sustainability and flattening the learning curve, what has been done since then?
How current is the Documentation? Is finding the Files easy or more an archeological Dig in ancient Rome? Finding Richard the 3rd was pure luck.
How valid are your Organizational Structures? Not only the System, but people as well.
Did anyone ever bothered cleaning up dead Configuration?
Has your ABAP Team implemented usage routines to let you know which Programs are truly used so you can eliminate the ones that are obsolete?
What about the Testing and Training Environment? They may have suffered greatly.
Is it time to retire attached Systems, to upgrade them?
What is Company specific that should be addressed during the Project? What are the Opportunities that are low Risk, low Interference that can be done in parallel?
Is it time to re-evaluate Change Management Procedures?
This is by no means a complete list and depending on Company and Environment, there are plenty of other considerations.
BUT if you do not revisit the lessons learned, when will you do it?
