Interview with Yulia Gordeeva, Head of Global Sales and Strategic Partnerships at Vimera

- Yulia Gordeeva , do you think there are fewer steps and slopes in men's career ladder than in women's? Have you ever had to compete with men for a certain position in the company?

-I don't think there is a definite answer here, it all depends on the industry, country, cultural background and historical facts. But I agree that, in many cases, a woman's career ladder has more steps and slopes, steeper inclines, and additional obstacles such as prejudices and stereotypes against women. Additionally, household duties and family management often become extra tasks that women must juggle alongside their careers. This can make balancing everything quite challenging.

As for the second question, competition for any position is inevitable, whether with women or men, so the answer to this question is definitely Yes. While I believe that fair competition is positive, the situation changes when women are disadvantaged simply because of their gender. On my career path, I have met different employers, with and without prejudice. Fortunately, I have met a lot more of the latter, and that's exactly what my bosses have been like when I've worked with them. At Vimera, we have a mixed team, which I'm sure we are all very happy about!

-What advice would you give to women who are just starting their journey in Salesforce through the Bring Women Back to Work initiative and want to become administrators and consultants?

-For the fantastic women entering Salesforce through the Bring Women Back to Work initiative, my advice is this:

  • Embrace the learning curve: Salesforce is an incredibly dynamic platform. Embrace the constant learning and growth that come with it. Trailhead, Salesforce's free learning platform, is your best friend. Dive into the modules, earn certifications, and showcase your expertise.
  • Find your niche: Don't try to be everything to everyone. As you learn, identify the areas of Salesforce that spark your passion. Specialize in those areas and become an authority.
  • Build your network: Connect with other women in Salesforce! The Salesforce community is vast and supportive. Find mentors, join user groups, and participate in conferences (both online and in-person). Surround yourself with women who inspire you and can help you navigate your journey.
  • Don't be afraid to ask: Don't let the fear of looking unknowledgeable hold you back. Ask questions, seek clarification, and leverage the expertise of those around you. Remember, the only dumb question is the one left unasked.
  • Confidence is key: Believe in your abilities. You have the potential to excel in this field. Project your confidence, highlight your accomplishments, and don't be afraid to advocate for yourself.
  • Balance and self-care: Remember to balance your professional growth with personal well-being. Taking care of yourself ensures you can perform at your best both in your career and personal life.

-Thank you very much for your answers!
