Interview with Vasile: Exploring the Journey into Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering

Today, we had the pleasure of sitting down with Vasile, one of our enthusiastic interns, to learn more about his journey into naval architecture and marine engineering, his aspirations, and how he envisions contributing to the exciting projects at MBM.

Here's what Vasile had to share:

What sparked your interest in naval architecture and marine engineering? Share your journey with us!

"My father worked at a shipyard near Lisbon, and I was always intrigued by the stories and insights he shared about how ships are built. When I went to university, I initially pursued mechanical engineering, but my heart led me to opt for the Naval Architecture course. The allure of designing and shaping vessels that navigate the world's oceans captivated me from the start."

Which specific aspects of the internship project are you most excited about and why?

"I am thrilled about seeing how we will progress along the weeks, and how, as new minds in the industry, we will evolve along with the project, bringing new ideas and solutions to the table. The project's compelling and aspiring nature presents a great challenge that I am eager to take on."

How do you envision your skills and knowledge contributing to the innovation project at MBM?

"As a junior engineer, I acknowledge that there may be areas where I lack experience. However, when it comes to innovation and thinking outside the box, I feel confident. The knowledge and drive I have gathered over the last five years have prepared me for this moment, and I am excited to contribute fresh perspectives to the project."

Are there any particular challenges or obstacles you anticipate during your internship, and how do you plan to overcome them?

"The inexperience is a key factor that may pose challenges, but I approach each day as an opportunity to learn and improve myself. The support from more experienced team members and the vast knowledge database that MBM has accumulated provide invaluable guidance. With determination and mentorship, I believe any obstacle can be surpassed."

What do you hope to achieve or learn during your time at MBM? Any specific goals or aspirations?

"While I may not know precisely what I will learn, I am certain that my time at MBM will be a tremendous learning experience for my future as an engineer. My primary goal was to gain industry experience and insights beyond academia, and I am confident that MBM will provide just that."

Have you had any previous experiences or projects that have prepared you for this internship?

"Much of what we are doing during the internship is familiar from my university projects, albeit on a smaller scale. Coordinating everything together in a real-world setting is an entirely different challenge, but I am excited to apply my prior knowledge to contribute effectively."

As you work closely with our chief engineer and managing director, Mr. M Bambury , what are some valuable insights or lessons you hope to gain from their expertise?

"For the few weeks that I have been here, I have observed that Mark is a highly experienced engineer with a wealth of insights about the industry. I look forward to learning from his expertise and gaining valuable insights on problem-solving, design considerations, and simplifying complex challenges."

What excites you most about the naval architecture and marine engineering industry? Any emerging trends or technologies that capture your interest?

"As someone from Portugal, the emerging trends in offshore wind energy, heavily invested by the EU congress, excite me. I am particularly interested in subsea engineering, where designing and deploying machinery and structures in harsh environments pose thrilling challenges. Additionally, yacht design has ignited my creative drive during my university years."

How do you plan to balance teamwork and individual contributions during the internship?

"I naturally get along well with people, so teamwork isn't an issue for me. However, I am mindful of allowing others to contribute their input, especially when discussing topics I am knowledgeable about. Collaborative efforts and open communication are essential in achieving success."

What advice would you give to other aspiring naval architecture students looking to pursue internships or gain practical experience?

"Be proactive and express your interest to as many companies as possible. Demonstrating your eagerness to learn and contribute will attract opportunities. Remember that the naval industry offers a vast array of opportunities, so stay motivated and explore different avenues."

"I am truly passionate about 3D design, as it allows me to shape the ideas we discuss and visualize them coming to life. Witnessing intricate and detailed designs taking form before my eyes each week is a fulfilling experience."

How do you see your role as an intern contributing to the overall success of MBM Consultancy?

"As a new mind in the industry, I believe I can contribute by bringing fresh ideas, perspectives, and innovative thinking to the table. Our inspired and objective-driven approach during the internship will help drive productivity and success for MBM."
