I can't believe that it has been almost one and a half year since I've pursue recruitment for my career option. In that one and a half years, I met a lot of amazing people and of course encounter some great moments also. It range from a simple day to day interview until the great excitement of starting a whole new project. Not only that I experienced these moments, but I also often get some thought about the whole recruitment process and concept. Since I've never share these thoughts with anyone, I thought that by writing my experience in this article, I can help other people understand how recruitment process works.
In this article I feel like sharing about my experience in being interviewed and interviewing. In my honest opinion, you can learn a lot about someone by interviewing them. Even though I also aware that sometimes interview can only describe or illustrate a person to an extent. This two facts that are contradictory to each other, makes interview such an interesting process. It makes interview an art since each person have their own interviewing style and their own response when being interviewed.
This time, I want share my thought about the concept "Interview is a two way process" that i have in my mind in while. Since the first time I've had an interview for my first job application, I always thought that interview is a two way process in which the interviewer and interviewee should have the same opportunity to assess each other. This means that not only the interviewer gets to ask question, but also the interviewee have the chance to ask the interviewer about them self or the company. That's why I always prepare some question when I'm being interviewed. On the other hand, I also give my candidates an opportunity for them to ask me about myself or the company.
Why assessing each other is really important? Assess means evaluate or estimate the nature, ability, or quality of something. In interview, it means that the interviewer evaluate or estimate interviewee ability or quality or the other way around. This is important for the interviewer since they have to find the most suitable candidate for the position. On the other hand, it is as important for the interviewee to ask some question. Why? Interview session is a wide opportunity to assess the company background, company vision, company culture, and other things that will affect your work life.
Personally, I think it's a great idea to know the background of the company that you're applying to since you're going to invest a lot of your time into that company. You could compare and equate your own values with the company values once you have a clear understanding on the company culture, background, vision, etc. Once you have the same values and vision that the company have, I think you could be more engaged and satisfied working for that company. But, if you don't have the same values and the same vision with the company, you have the option to reject or withdraw from the recruitment process. Yes, you have that option.
These facts concludes that interview is a two process. Either the company (interviewer) and the interviewee (candidate) have an option to choose. Don't hesitate to ask about the company vision, culture, and other things that you think may affect your work-life balance. It would help you a lot in later days.
Just ask, you have nothing to loose.
