Interview tip: How do you get a fast start in your new role?

Interview tip: How do you get a fast start in your new role?

New Year, New Job? So you want to start something fresh, get a reset for the New Year, but you don't know how to prove that you are a quick learner? Following the steps below will help you get a quick start to your new role.

1). Understand the objectives of your new role. If you don't understand expectations from your leader, directly from that person, you are bound to keep spinning your wheels for 12 months.

2). Learn from others on the current team what else your leader is looking for that they might not be saying. Or, at least get a different perspective. What have they learned during their time at the company, what did they wish they knew before completing their first year?

3). Check in. Always check in based on their timelines for you, or your timelines for yourself. What did you mean to accomplish in your first 30/60/90 days and what's missing? What can you work on for the next 90 days?

4). Learn from all aspects of the business. From the trainers, to the sales people (how does your company generate revenue), your internal stakeholders, anyone who can give you a different view or lens to help you understand your purpose in your new role. Watch videos, go the company website. What are others saying on social? Take the time to learn and absorb all that you can and continue to do this throughout your time there.

5). Finally, review and plan, plan, plan but don't forget to implement that plan. What have you been able to accomplish? Did you meet your expectations? Did you exceed? Was the goal to exceed expectations?

Happy Job hunting and Have a great Thanksgiving!
