Interview with Tim Mahoney, General Chairman of St. Patrick's Day Parade Committee

The Member Minute is a brief conversation between a member of our Savannah Chamber team and a member of the Savannah business community. This monthly newsletter introduces our subscribers to fellow business leaders and inspiring initiatives on how to get involved locally.

Member Minute (MM): What are some notable highlights planned for the 200th anniversary parade?

Tim Mahoney (TM): We have a lot of great bands lined up this year for the 200th anniversary parade, as well as some well-decorated floats and very entertaining commercial units.

MM: How has the parade changed over the past 200 years?

TM: It is incredible to see how far the parade has come since stories from when my dad was the General Chairman in 1968-1969 when they met at a dining room table to plan the parade with few resources. Now, look at what this parade has become and what it means to the great city of Savannah and Chatham County's economy.

MM: What's the historical significance of Savannah's St. Patrick's Day celebration?

TM: The historical significance of the parade is for us to honor the Feast of St. Patrick. We also remember the Past, the Present, and the Future as far as how we got to this remarkable point of a 200th Anniversary parade. Yes, it is a celebration that we put on, but we want to work with the city and county and all agencies to make it enjoyable and safe for everyone.
