Tejas Biswas: Namaste, Hello, Bonjour, First of all, thank you all and am very obliged for selecting and liking my sketch on the Instagram page of ‘The transportation interior’.

Born in Mumbai, India I started my transportation design after my higher studies, in ISD Rubika, Pune for 3 years and then shifted myself to Strate Ecole de design for more influence and involvement in future mobility designs and automotive interiors. And also currently doing my final year in masters diploma.

Mobilities have always been like a piece of art for me. Fascinating arts which welcomes the people to be driven in. And being a science student with equal involvement in an artistic background, motivated me to see these automobiles with a very different perspective. There was no first thought which led me to decide whether I want to aspire ahead as a car designer but there have been multiple thoughts which more than mentally, it has emotionally motivated me to think ‘Oh yes! This feels right.’ I wanted to shift these emotions of mine towards mobility and interiors because with time- Involvement of emotions makes mobility more than just a machine which goes from point A to B. This thought throughout has kept me in charge to develop my creativity not just from when I did start pursuing transportation design but way before. Sketches which now feels like a funny past has actually pushed me to build my interest. Being from a country like India, where it is a bit hard to accept this kind of fields, my parents on the other end have always been a keen inspiration to stay motivated and creative even though they fairly didn’t have any link to what design was all about.

The Transportation Interior: How was your journey/career path from the beginning up to today so far?

Tejas Biswas: As I have mentioned that being born in India I chose to be in such a difficult field which people actually think is easy and don’t find any relevance. Then I by myself started searching for some good transportation design colleges in India which can provide and improve my skill set under the right mindset of designing. After many such interviews and questioning with various colleges I was very much blown with the way ISD Rubika accepts design along with its foreign exposure and involvement with various companies. After being in what I wanted to be now it was the time to develop my skills and creativity and ‘the emotion’ that I wanted others to feel when they see the mobilities. I started investing my time in research and asking people questions so that it provides me with the right information of what I have to design around. I started sketching more and more since I entered ISD and started doing some marker renders. The college later helped me with developing my photoshop skills.

With my developing skills I started doing long and short projects with my college which helped me in developing my team skills and team management. In collaboration with Lunatic Koncepts, Mumbai I got an experience to design a personal mobility for the Mumbai Police. Talking about the turning point, a team project with Matt Croft, a MC Laren designer, really changed my thinking and with this project it really pumped my design skills and creativity. It also pushed me into thinking more deeply about futuristic mobility and concepts and with good rendering slowly it helped me to develop my 3D skills and visualization as well. I understood how important it is to create a welcoming experience for the humans inside the mobility. It built my interest more towards automotive interiors and future mobilities. After 3rd year I decided to join Strate to specialize in what I wanted to achieve and to be in that particular environment that I needed to improve. With masterclasses with company professionals it really pushed me with my sketching skills. With proper availability of 3d model tutors it helped me to see my designs in 3D and render them to it’s best. And With multiple college collaborative projects with the companies like DS and Honda it helped me to get a taste of the industries. And thus also got a chance develop my skills under company professional guidance. And now after writing my thesis I pursue to finish my design diplomme with vast areas of research, proofs and understanding of what I want to achieve. And after the portfolio show with my portfolio ready it has pushed me to apply for internships and also achieve my dream internship in the company which visualizes design around user emotions.

The Transportation Interior: What motivates you? What are your Inspiration sources and what future do you want to create with your talent?

Tejas Biswas: With my experience I have created my basis around this theme which I tend to follow around all my designs, “Human experience is the essentiality.” This term which I have realized has motivated me to design, render and make my visuals welcoming for creating an human experience in an interior. More than just the design it is the experience I like to create for the necessary users so that they feel what they need. I have tried to push myself into various forms of exploring this, a dynamic emotion or an emotion of a feeling of home that an user misses in his daily commute or maybe an experience of happiness that an user wants. In my renders I try to select a perfect a mood and a perfect experience that can portray a welcoming design. Does motivating me too to create an human experience which I feel in this current genre of design is an essentiality. Thus in the future I would like to focus on this quality of mine which by itself speaks about what the user would feel when he is inside the mobility. Humans spend most time in the interiors of the car and as a designer it is important to focus on their emotions. Thus giving them the premium, luxury, dynamic/sporty quality they expect when they are being driven or do drive. And that’s where I would like to keep a spotlight in the future, thus exploring all kinds of creativity around transportation interior going into details of the sketching skills, rendering skills. Because it is important to express in a passionate way what people want to feel.

The Transportation Interior: What advices do you have for the upcoming Transportation Design students?

Tejas Biswas: With time and experience I have decided to place myself as a transportation interior student but car design as a field is very open. It is like a journey of swimming, you keep putting efforts until you know how to float and once you do start swimming it's important to focus on your strokes and improve it. It is indeed a small world where students put their full efforts to become an aspiring good designer. It is for sure a difficult journey but student should learn with time to have patience to improve because it is a field where you won’t become a good swimmer from day one. This patience will make students realize what they actually want to achieve. There is no 100 percent satisfaction but always a scope to improve. Concentration and dedication to become like your role model is for sure the most thrilling part of this journey. Transportation design is fun and not a hectic field if you actually love what you do. And now ‘Passion is the essentiality.’

The Transportation Interior: Thank you very much, Tejas, for your deep insights into your life and path to become a good designer. You are on the best way and a perfect example for students to achieve their goals. Once more congratulations and we wish you all the best for your future.
