The Interview Process Needs An Update
ITS FLAWED, NOT BROKEN: For the past 20 years as an electrical engineer working in computer hardware design, R&D, product development, at major technology companies, interviewing and being interviewed, I can say the process engineers have come to accept is FLAWED. It is subjective rather than quantitative. When I was first asked to interview other engineers, I was surprised how subjective it was, it was an art rather than a well-defined quantitative process. I knew something had to change to be fair for both sides, I decided to develop a test, it was novel 20 years ago, and I was able to decide without eye-balling the candidate and justify my recommendation. It worked. In all fairness, I must include that GOOGLE is the closes, from my experience, to being quantitative, but still not better. As long as humans are involved, it will alway be subjective. Let the nayers respond.
