Interview Prep

Interview Prep

Interview Prep is the best pre-game for a successful interview. These items are key to reconfirm with your recruiter:

Company Overview

No one can remember every detail from a first discussion. It's so important to re-iterate information about the company. Although candidates should be doing some research on their own, it's helpful to review:

  • Industry
  • Business Lines
  • Revenue & Headcount
  • Differentiators
  • Goals
  • Culture & Values

The Role

Organizations are making this hire as a part of a larger strategy. Wouldn't it be nice to know how you would support the larger vision? It's key to know:

  • The Formal Title
  • Reporting Structure
  • If The Role Existed Before
  • Ideal 30-60-90 Expectations
  • Growth Opportunities

Hiring Manager / Direct Report

You should always find background info on someone you're going to meet with. A LinkedIn profile or credible article can give you insights into their work experience. Speaking the same language is so important.

  • Years With Company
  • Promotions
  • Industry Experience

Competitive Position

Hiring managers are typically looking for specific experience. It's hard to find someone who "has it all" and is also looking to make a career change. This means, every candidate is checking a percentage of boxes. It's vital to know what you have and also what you don't have. These items enable a transparent conversation in a first interview:

  • Tenure With Organizations
  • Industry Experience
  • Similar Revenue Goals
  • Similar Tactical Goals
  • Similar Team Structure

The Interview

Wouldn't it be embarrassing to show up in-person to a virtual interview? ??

Quickly review:

  • In-person or Virtual
  • Parking Instructions
  • Virtual Platform
  • Dress Code Expectations

Affirmations

Everyone needs support. Early in the interview phase, the candidate may have no one to consult with except for with the recruiter. I make sure to affirm the candidate in the reasons I reached out to them and the reasons why the client is interested in having an interview.

Your recruiter should be your Hype Man. Before an interview, make sure to get your prep on!
