Interview with Pegasys' Head of Human Resources: Naushina Mia
Pegasys Consulting
We are a strategy and management consultancy focusing on development impact in emerging economies.
What inspired you to pursue a career in human resources, and how has your journey led you to your current role at Pegasys?
I have always been interested in understanding human behaviour in a business context. Early on, I knew I wanted to pursue tertiary education in both general and industrial psychology and commerce, and I was certain that I did not want to practice psychology. I aimed to delve into the ‘exciting stuff’, as I described it in my teenage years, such as understanding the relationship between people and business performance, dynamics of successful teams, organizational development, and unravelling the combination of behavioural and cognitive profiles required for success in various roles.
This passion over two decades led me to Pegasys. Pegasys was experiencing significant growth and sought a trusted HR advisor, which aligned perfectly with my interests. What intrigued me during the four rounds of interviews I underwent was that the discussions always circled back to "our people," which solidified my decision to join.
What advice would you give to young women aspiring to pursue a career in Human Resources?
There is a reason why HR holds a seat at the table. The HR skill set is versatile and can be adapted to any sector. My advice to any aspiring HR professional is to delve into the intricacies of the organisation you're employed in—understand how things work, identify the levers, recognise critical success factors, and grasp the overall business strategy. Once you have a solid understanding of these aspects, you will be in a position to make a significant impact.
