Interview with Niloo Nabizadeh

What is your experience of being a female engineer??

“Coming from a conservative family and a male-oriented society, it was always challenging to break the stereotypes and express ideas at a table where you are the only woman. I used to face biases and being underestimated, but all these experiences have strengthened my resilience and motivated me even more.? However, being a female engineer leads to a great sense of confidence and accomplishment. Knowing that your skills and expertise contribute to meaningful projects and innovations is highly gratifying.”?

What inspired you to develop a career in engineering?

“From a young age, I was always watching my dad working with the tools when fixing things at home and I was always fascinated by how little tools can repair complex problems. For me, engineering was a field that was not just about technical skills, but it also involves creativity and innovation.”?

Have there been challenges on your road to becoming an engineer which you have faced due to being a woman? If yes, (how) have you overcome these???

“In my opinion, overcoming stereotypes was always the biggest challenge I have faced. The need to prove myself beyond my male counterparts meant putting in extra effort to demonstrate my skills. To counter this, I focus on consistently delivering high-quality work and building a strong professional network. In addition, balancing the role of a young mom and an engineer presents unique challenges. However, it is a highly rewarding experience that is only possible by effective planning and time management.”?
