Interview With Milovan (Conversion Tracking Specialist)
Omar Reyes
Freelance Google Ads Specialist | Helping Painting Companies Generate Leads Online
1) Where were you born and raised? Also tell us something unique about yourself.
I was born and raised in Ni?, Serbia. Growing up in a country impacted by war, I experienced firsthand the challenges of financial instability, both within my family and the nation as a whole. These experiences shaped my perspective on resilience and resourcefulness, deeply influencing how I approach challenges and opportunities in my professional and personal life.
2) What got you interested in marketing and what was your journey?
My journey into marketing was somewhat accidental. I started as a technical support lead at a local company, and when the company closed, I applied for a position at a Google Ads Management Agency. I got the job, and within a few years, I honed my skills enough to transition into working as an independent PPC Marketing consultant.
When Google announced the shift from Universal Analytics to GA4, I saw an opportunity to pivot and specialize as a Tracking and Analytics expert, a decision that has shaped my career ever since.
3) What skills and industry do you specialize in?
I specialize in Google Tag Manager and setting up comprehensive tracking solutions for various marketing platforms, including Google Analytics, Google Ads, Facebook, TikTok, and more. This is my primary service offering, enabling clients to track and optimize their campaigns effectively. Beyond tracking setups, I assist clients with Google Analytics report configurations and create custom dashboards in Google Looker Studio, helping them turn data into actionable insights.
While I don’t focus on a single industry, my clients span a wide range of sectors, including both lead generation and e-commerce, allowing me to adapt my expertise to diverse business needs.
4) What is your best soft skill?
My strongest soft skill is "client communication". I believe this is one of the most important skills overall, as it’s essential to clearly understand and convey what the client needs, as well as set accurate expectations for what I can deliver. Effective communication fosters trust, ensures alignment, and ultimately leads to better outcomes for both the client and the project.
5) What softwares and tools do you use regularly?
Notion, Figma, ChatGPT (and other AI tools), WhatsApp, Skype, Slack and All the usual Google stuff.
6) What are your goals for the next year and into the future?
My goals for the next year include completing and monetizing my 'GTM and GA4 course,' which I’ve been working on for a while now. I also plan to enhance my online presence by consistently posting content on LinkedIn and YouTube, and engaging with the community. Additionally, I aim to increase my earnings by 20% annually by expanding my client base and refining my service offerings. And yes, get more time for myself and family.
7) What has been the hardest thing you dealt with in your career path?
The hardest thing was getting confidence in myself and the quality of my work. I spent years undercharging my work and it took me a while to fix that.
8) What is the biggest mistake you made that you want others to avoid?
My biggest mistake was not prioritizing self-promotion and building my personal brand earlier in my career. Even if you’re happily employed full-time, investing in your online presence and personal branding is crucial. It not only opens up new opportunities but also makes transitions and career advancements much easier in the future.
I encourage others to start showcasing their expertise online, whether through LinkedIn, blogging, or other platforms—it’s an investment in yourself that pays off significantly over time.
9) Who are your favorite people in the industry that you follow?
Julian Juenemann (measereschool.com), Julius Fedorovicius (analyticsmania.com), Chris Mercer (measureu.com), Simo Ahava (simoahava.com)
10) Who has had the biggest influence on your career to date?
The owner of the PPC Marketing agency who employed me and gave me a chance to create a nice career in digital marketing. He always encouraged me and helped me even after I left the agency and started working on my own.
11) What has been your favorite course that you taken and why?
The MeasureSchool YouTube channel has been my favorite learning resource. When I first started in digital marketing, it was an invaluable source of knowledge, providing clear and practical guidance on GTM and tracking. I still recommend it to anyone new to the field because it’s an excellent, free resource that makes learning accessible.
12) What would you tell yourself or someone who is just starting out in marketing?
I love this quote from Bruce Lee:“I am not afraid of a person who knows 10000 kicks. But I am afraid of a person who knows one kick but practices it for 10000 times.”Find that one thing you want to be great at, and just focus on that.
13) If the entire world was listening to you, what would you have to say?
Life is short, make the best of it.
