Interview With Jordan Patel (Chief Google Media Buyer)
Omar Reyes
Freelance Google Ads Specialist | Helping Painting Companies Generate Leads Online
1) Where were you born and raised?
I was born and raised in Cheltenham, England - a town on the edge of the cotswold, which other than horse racing doesn't have a huge amount going on. I now actually live in Vancouver, Canada.
2) What got you interested in marketing and what was your journey?
I dropped out of two Colleges, both times at the end of the first year. I was already working in sales part time whilst at college, and decided I enjoyed the money more at the time so eventually left to go full time.?
After a few years I soon realized that maybe I hadn't made the best choice and it was time to plan out how I want the rest of my life to look. Social media and the digital advertising world was really starting to explode during my teenage years and I was always curious to see how companies were going to adapt to this.
I made the decision to quit my job and go into an apprenticeship in Marketing. Soon after I qualified I moved to a leading performance marketing agency in the UK - Lead 365, where I really learnt my trade. Before moving to Canada and working in-house at an Ecommerce brand.
3) What skills and industry do you specialize in?
Paid search mostly, but I do get a thrill out of landing page optimization too (Conversion rates can be an obsession??). No particular industry but anywhere where lead generation is used efficiently, I'm there.
4) What is your best soft skill?
Open-mindness, it helps, a lot.
5) What softwares and tools do you use regularly?
6) What are your goals for the next year and into the future?
7) What has been the hardest thing you dealt with in your career path?
Having self belief and multiple cases of imposter syndrome.?

8) What is the biggest mistake you made that you want others to avoid?
That having instant success on a project doesn't make you an expert. Every project is different and there really is no one size fits all. Learning to be adaptable and never get ahead of yourself from the start will help you massively.??
9) Who are your favorite people in the industry that you follow?
10) Who has had the biggest influence on your career to date?
A cliche no doubt, but my Dad. He's never directly helped me in my career, but he's always supported me and backed me to go after what I wanted. Whilst at same time reminding me there is always a home to go back to should it ever go wrong.?
11) What has been your favorite course that you have taken and why?
I've been relatively self taught other than my marketing course and a paid search course, both of which I wouldn't say were hugely beneficial. Being hands on really rocketed me forward (I also appreciate I was lucky enough to be granted big budgets from day 1). Other than that, following the right people on Linkedin for content and some Solutions 8 youtube videos will offer you plenty of help.
12) What would you tell yourself or someone who is just starting out in marketing?
Connect with others. The PPC community is huge and welcoming. Use it to your advantage and learn from the best, but also don't be afraid to ask questions, ever.
13) If the entire world was listening to you, what would you have to say?
Lewis Hamilton should be an 8x World Champion. ??
14) Where can we find you?
