Interview With Harrison (SEO Specialist)

Interview With Harrison (SEO Specialist)

1) Where were you born and raised? Also tell us something unique about yourself.

I was born and raised in Chicago IL. I have a ripe curiosity for all things tech.

2) What got you interested in marketing and what was your journey?

Many years of working as a BDR or in sales gave me enjoyment and skill for earning the trust and finding the needs of clients.

After some time, I wanted to continue working with small-medium sized businesses but not have to cold call them, so I needed some fresh new tools in my Batman utility belt.

3) What skills and industry do you specialize in?

Media agencies I've noticed tend to have the bulk of their clients in the same industry type.

I happen to have worked on the Home & Auto team when I was a sales rep at Groupon in 2019, and I am still working with automotive clients just on the organic traffic side of things.

4) What is your best soft skill?

Simplifying tech-heavy ideas to non-techies.

You have to be an effective communicator at all levels, from the client to your manager, to the CEO of the agency.

5) What softwares and tools do you use regularly?

Evernote, GA4, Google Search Console, Brightedge, Airtable.

6) What are your goals for the next year and into the future?

- Be on track to get promoted to Senior Specialist

- Coach 4 people on how to get hired in Digital marketing

- Increase Etsy profits across shops by 40%

- Create content once a week minimum

7) What has been the hardest thing you dealt with in your career path?

Executing SEO demands a meticulous blend of patience and precision, recognizing that the fruits of our labor may not manifest overnight.

It's a daily commitment to the long-term game, where each carefully crafted optimization contributes to the steady ascent in search rankings and sustained online visibility.

8) What is the biggest mistake you made that you want others to avoid?

Not Applying for work I wanted to do soon enough. I would only apply for sales job in 2020/21 when I should've been applying for digital marketing jobs once I completed Seth Hymes course work, and helped an inflatable party business website I found on Facebook.

I didn't start applying on Indeed until I got an in-house marketing gig, but I think I waited too long and advise applying before you feel prepared.

You'll never fully feel prepared until you've been in it for a few years.

9) Who are your favorite people in the industry that you follow?

Alex Hormozi as of the year's end. I like his videos on mindset.

He has a tweet where he says, "We don’t rise to the level of our expectations we fall to the level of our preparation" The same thing applies to the marathon mentality you have to have when doing SEO work.

We all have friends who are great cooks, but they wouldn't last a month in a proper kitchen."

10) Who has had the biggest influence on your career to date?

Seth Jared Hymes , I've taken many online courses and though I was hesitant for a year or two it's been the best decision on my immediate career trajectory, next to Year Up Chicago and Re:work Training.

11) What has been your favorite course that you taken and why?

Seth Hyme's course, the community he fostered allowed me to tap into the coaching calls with his colleague Xavier Singletary which led to me engaging with people at different parts of their journey.

This led to a confirmed belief that I could do it too.

12) What would you tell yourself or someone who is just starting out in marketing?

Immerse yourself in the world of digital and don't settle if that's what you want to do.

13) If the entire world was listening to you, what would you have to say?

I would advocate for empathy, understanding, and collaboration. In our interconnected world, recognizing our shared humanity, respecting diversity, and working together to address common challenges are essential for a more sustainable and harmonious future.

14) Where can we find you?
