Interview With an Expert
Pall Medical, part of Cytiva
We envision a world in which access to life-changing therapies transforms human health.
Hi Dr. Cardosi, thank you for taking the time to talk to us today. We would like to talk about your experience using the Pall Multiple Patient Use Anesthesia Circuits and Ultipor filters. First, I would like to hear about your background, where do you work at? How long have you been working there?
I am the Director of Anesthesia
How many Operating rooms are in this place and how many surgeries do you per form on average on daily basis?
We have 16 major ORs, 4 ambulatory ORs, 4 rooms for Endo and 6 ORs for OB. We perform around 20,000 cases annually in the OR, and have over 5000 deliveries a year.
Moving on, let’s talk about Pall Multiple Patient Use Anesthesia Circuits and Ultipor filters. How long have you been using Pall circuits and Ultipor filters? Do you use Pall circuits for all cases, if not, what types of cases you do not use them?
We have been using the Pall circuit continuously for the last 16 years for all of our general anesthesia cases.
Can you please tell me, what has been your experience using Pall circuits and Ultipor filters? what positive comments or feedback have you received from the team?
All of our experience with the Pall circuit has been exemplary. Our team finds the
circuits to be highly efficient and they appreciate the time saved between cases switching circuits and not having to run to the supply room to retrieve a circuit when the room wasn’t adequately stocked for the day. The OR manager appreciates the turnover savings and they especially appreciate the cost savings associated with not changing the circuit with each case and paying for the disposal. Using the Pall circuit was an easy decision based on cost alone, the time and environmental savings are just a bonus.
When we talk about benefits, what are the three main benefits you see while using Pall multiuse circuits alongside the Ultipor 25 filter? Have you experienced a shorter turnover time between cases with the Pall solution?
The three main benefits are cost savings, reduced turnover times, and being a good environmental steward

We would like to hear about how you work with the infection control department or committee regarding Pall solution. Can you tell us what is your procedure for cleaning the circuit and components in between patients? What guidelines or processes do you follow on setting up the circuit for the day?
Anesthesia staff wipe down the circuits and reservoir bags between patients as per protocol.
We hear more and more that healthcare institutions are shifting to meet sustainability targets
I am very happy that we are able to reduce our circuit waste in the OR by almost ? every day. Our institution is very involved in being a green company and they see the reduction in waste. There are many green initiatives in place at our institution and we are very proud of this and are happy we can be a part of them.
Do you see using Pall solutions allow you and your institution to reduce cost while maintaining a high clinical performance?
We have never had any concern or cause to believe that any form of cross
contamination has occurred. We have a very robust infection prevention and control
To finish, is there anything else you would like to comment about the Pall circuits and filters?
Finally, I would like to say how pleased we have been with the Pall Circuit, the support we have received, quality of the product and not only being able to take excellent care of our patients but helping to care for the environment as well.
Thank you Dr. Cardosi!
