Interview with the Design Manager - Tips and tricks to optimise start-up marketing
Our short interview series continues! Today with Clara Esser, the Design Manager of Assemblio. In the following interview, she tells us about her role at Assemblio and gives some valuable tips and tricks for all aspiring start-up designers.
1: What is your role at Assemblio?
At Assemblio I am responsible for the design. From corporate design and flyers to web design and illustrations, my day-to-day work is completely wide-ranging.
2: What challenges do you face and how do you solve them specifically for your area of responsibility?
1. The first idea is never the best! No matter how enthusiastic I am about that first idea, it is usually not fully developed. So the first step is always to collect as many ideas (and variations of them) as possible. I prefer to do this with short keywords and sketches.
2. I have no ideas! Your own workplace is great for working out a concept. But that has to come into existence first. For that you need inspiration, and that comes from new impressions. So first get away from your desk! New surroundings, a visit to the library or even a walk help the mind to think "outside the box" and come up with new ideas. An example: The idea for the logo came to me when I saw the architecture of my parents' new apartment.
3. Somehow it all doesn't work! I always want to present the perfect idea as quickly as possible, but design takes time. My ideas always have to rest for a while and keep working in the back of my mind until I eventually come up with the right solution - often just before I fall asleep, when my mind "wanders".

3: What makes Assemblio special for you?
What I value most is the respect and trust within the team. This creates a pleasant working atmosphere and has also led to me gaining greater self-confidence - in relation to my art, but also in everyday life.
4: Tell us your top 3 design tricks for successful start-up marketing!
1. Stand out! Technology, AI and the future are often associated with white, blue, grey and green. Yet Assemblio is colourful! From the beginning, it was clear that the design should be distinctive.
2. Simple! At first glance, this seems contradictory to point 1 and is often not so easy to reconcile. But no matter how colourful, design needs its limits and rules. This creates a kind of "design construction kit" that I can use. This creates structure and clarity without becoming boring.
3. Teamwork! Every creative task evolves in exchange with others. I collect ideas, sketch and try them out. In review sessions, I see what works and often come up with completely new ideas.
