Interview with Colin King, Strategic Advisor for Bright Spaces
Colin King has joined Bright Spaces as a Strategic Advisor, with a mission to support our international growth. Over the past 30 years, Colin has been involved with large public companies and mid-cap growth companies, all with revenue well above $1 billion. Currently, he works with several scalable tech startups transforming real estate and construction through digitalisation.
We sat down with him for a short interview on his role here and what excited him about Bright Spaces, technology, startups, and how he envisions our future.
BS: How do you think technology can impact the future of real estate?
Colin King: Technology helps a business to invent the future and gets it to happen today.?
Technology is an ideal enabler within real estate for solving complex and seemingly impossible challenges that arise at the nexus between people, culture and place.?
I believe that technology has the power to transform the built environment.
BS: What excites you about Bright Spaces?
CK: Our team of industry experts create digital real estate solutions help to create a new way of working that improve productivity and bring significant business benefits to our clients. I can see we have an opportunity to transform the sector.
Bright Spaces is at forefront of driving innovation & positive change on how you showcase and lease buildings.
Beyond Bright Spaces' exciting products, the people working for Bright Spaces also impress me. I can see that people are playing an active role in transforming both the company and shaping the way that the real estate sector adopts technology. I can see that team members are working to innovate the built world, building a more efficient way of working that will unlock significant value for our customers.
BS: What would you like to bring from your vast experience to the company?
CK: Experience is important because it?allows you to grow and evolve. Previous experience?builds useful context for making decisions. When you are presented with a new environment, such as speaking with a new customer I would hope to draw on my experience and adapt, always with the aim to demonstrate empathy and understanding of their needs.
I also hope that I can develop brand new ideas and strategies as a result of my experience that I have gained across the built environment, for the benefit of Bright Spaces.

BS: What makes or breaks a startup?
CK: For me, it's always about PEOPLE.
A good team is vital in turning a startup founder’s vision into a reality.
Next, it is all about growth, I belive everyone in an organisation plays role in enabling a business to grow.
BS: The year is 2030. You’re looking back at where we started from and at our fruitful collaboration. Where is Bright Spaces now and what is your message to us from 2022??
CK: In 2022, we set an ambition for 2030, an ambition which formulated qualitative and quantitative objectives for our Group between 2022 and 2030. We have made significant progress in working on these objectives:??
Bright Spaces has become sustainably more competitive and we have grown fast, by building a truly global organization, to completely support our clients and users, wherever they are.
In building this competitive edge that accelerated our growth, there were two dimensions we worked on:
First, we took advantage of our knowledge. Over the years, we have built tremendous expertise. We have a profound understanding of our markets. And we have built an incredible intimacy with our clients. We also have built a formidable knowledge of our customer base. And finally, we have built a powerful network in all countries that we operate in and we have accumulated enormous experience and talent in this network.?Between 2022 and 2030 we unleashed and leveraged the power of this expertise.
Second, we went about creating unique value. We demonstrated tangibly the value we bring and the difference our products can make. We demonstrated that we are unique. We did this by making the value of solutions real and tangible in our value propositions. We enabled our customers to win in their chosen markets!
