Interview | Bj?rn Moberg

Let’s meet our Head of Global Business Development, Bj?rn Moberg. He has been in the postal business for over 15 years, but there are no signs of tiredness. “I am super enthusiastic about the future in this fast-growing industry, where consumers demand faster, cheaper, and more sustainable deliveries,” he says.

Why are you in the postal business?

I have been in the postal business for over 15 years, and it has been an inspiring, fun, challenging, and rewarding journey. I am super enthusiastic about the future in this fast-growing industry, where consumers demand faster, cheaper, and more sustainable deliveries.

The primary enthusiasm of the postal business is to secure these demands and create happiness among recipients globally. The development of AI, automation, and globalization will continue to connect sellers with global consumers, and there is where I see future opportunities that stimulate me.

For the last couple of years, the focus has been on deliveries of packages. Still, when I started in the industry, I was helping mail-order companies to develop into e-commerce companies that offered their merchandise to global online consumers.

Being in the postal business has sometimes felt like fighting windmills, since the monopoly is usually stuck within the walls of many postal authorities. However, postal organizations have developed rapidly over recent years because of demanding online consumers and the roll-out of agile and delivery-friendly alternative carriers.

On the other hand, postal networks have an unbeatable infrastructure to reach every household worldwide. For instance, Pos Indonesia (Indonesian Post) is the only carrier delivering to all 18 000 islands around Indonesia.

One of the main strengths of PostPlus is the combination of our access to the global postal networks and the strong composition of our alternative carriers in key e-commerce markets.

Finally, the postal business has also taken me worldwide, meeting people from different cultures and mindsets. For instance, my first encounter with marketplaces in China in 2012 was about how can we serve global consumers with our parcels yesterday, while the mentality in the US is still how can we best serve our domestic US consumers?

Do you prefer sending post by message in a bottle or would you use a pigeon?

I like speed so I would go with the pigeon; I also like that the pigeon is returning ready for the next delivery, just like proud delivery women and men worldwide.

Do you prefer working from home, or do you like working in the office?

I prefer to work in the office because of the interactions with colleagues and the opportunity to network with people in our office building. The reality is however that much work is taking place on the move, for instance, at airports, hotels, and coffee shops between meetings. The best thing about working from home is my new coffee machine that makes perfect espresso.

What is your favorite TV show?

I don’t own a TV, but I am interested in history, documentaries, and news, which I can get from podcasts or YouTube on my computer.

What was the last thing you received by post?

I received a large birthday greeting card in my mailbox that was too large to fit the mailbox, so the mailman gave it to my doorman. I won’t reveal how old I am, but the card portrayed a large bear, and a fun fact is that Bj?rn in Swedish means “Bear.”

What is the most important thing in an awesome working environment?

Attitude, positivity, and teamwork combine awesomeness to create the ultimate delivery experience for our customer’s customer, the online consumer.

Please describe your main strengths that are associated with work.

I would let others judge, but I am a great attentive listener, have developed social skills, and never give up.

Football (aka soccer) or basketball?

Soccer is my game, and I follow the World, European, and Latam Cup called Copa América.

Even though I used to play soccer in my youth, I am today active in playing tennis, bicycling, kickboxing, and running. I recently completed my first full marathon and looking forward to the next challenge.
