Interview with The Axel Group's Recruiter: Jason Choma
Welcome back to #MeetTheTeamMonday! Check out my interview below with The Axel Group's Recruiter, Jason Choma.
What are your areas of expertise and what does your position entail?
My areas of expertise are finding quality candidates and communicating with them on a different level– making them feel comfortable and open, creating relationships and networking with them.
My role as a Recruiter is similar to that of a Sports Agent – finding a quality candidate, learning about their background and experience, and finding the best role that improves their situation. It also helps our clients onboard a great candidate. Its like winning the championship.
?What school did you attend/what degree did you receive?
I attended Rowan University and graduated in 2010 with a B.A. in Advertising and Public Relations.
?What do you like most about working at The Axel Group?
The culture is the reason why I love working at the Axel Group. We are all on similar paths in life, growing together, and pushing each other to be successful. Our management team has each employee’s best interest at heart and are always available help anytime, anywhere they can.
Tell me about your family, hobbies, and interests.
My wife and I have been together for 8 years and have been married since 9/1/19. In 2020, we purchased our first home a few days before the pandemic forced the global lockdown. We’ve worked tirelessly to make that house “Our Home”, and before we knew it, we were blessed to find out we were expecting our first child, Jaxon Gerard Choma. His original due date was July 4, but he decided to enter this world a few days early. From June 29th, our lives have changed forever and I could never imagine turning back. Our beautiful boy is loved by all of our family and friends, his four-legged brother, Wesley, and we are excited to continue this new chapter in our lives with the support of everyone at The Axel Group.
If you could go anywhere in the world and expense wasn’t an issue where would you go and why?
If we could go anywhere in the world at no expense, I would like to take my family to a few different places. We'd love to go anywhere we can sit on the beach with the sand between our toes, the sun upon our skin, breathing in the fresh salty air while enjoy an ice-cold cocktail. We would also love any trip where we could go hiking through mountain trails and enjoy the scenic views nature has to offer.
?What was the best concert you've been to?
I’ve been to many concerts, festivals and shows, so its hard to determine the best. Pearl Jam, Florence + the Machine, The Who, Charles Bradley “The Screaming Eagle of Soul”, as well as some EDM (Tiesto, Kaskade, and Eric Prydz to name a few) sit amongst the top of my list.
?What is your greatest accomplishment?
My Greatest accomplishment would be winning Nationals with my Travel Soccer Team and taking the title for the NJAC Champions in College.
What is your favorite season and why?
My favorite season would have to be the fall into winter, since it reminds me of growing up as a kid – plus my birthday falls at the beginning of December.
?If you could choose an actor to play you in a movie of your life who would it be and why?
Jim Carey. Not only because we have similar mannerisms, but he is 100% dedicated in each role he plays.?
What or who is your biggest inspiration?
My son, Jaxon.
What is something interesting not many people know about you?
I am ambidextrous, I write and draw, as well as kick a ball with my left, and throw a ball, bat, and shoot a basketball with my right.
?Favorite TV/Movie?
I am a movie and documentary enthusiast, so it’s hard to choose one. As some of my colleagues here at the Axel Group would say…Hubie Halloween is my favorite.
?Coffee or Tea?
Coffee- 100%
Would you ever go sky diving? When/why?
Yes. When the Axel Group says, “Let’s go for a team building/bonding exercise.”
?What is the best advice you have ever gotten?
The best advice I’ve ever received came from my parents:
Mom: Don’t ever change or be afraid to be yourself - “not everyone is going to like you”
Dad: God gave you two ears and one mouth for a reason.
