Interview With Arjan Schoorl (Google Ads Specialist)

Where were you born and raised? Also tell us something unique about yourself.

My life as a Google Ads specialist began on a farm in the Netherlands, where I

was born in January 2002. The endless open space to play and explore sparked

my curiosity and eventually led me to the world of digital marketing.

What got you interested in marketing and what was your journey?

My journey began after getting my high school diploma, when I decided to start

my web design company and study computer science in Leiden. Although

I achieved good results, I felt something was missing. I quit my studies, focused

completely on my business and started taking online courses on web design,

Google Ads and marketing.

This choice was crucial because it made me realize

that studying Commercial Economics was a perfect fit for my ambition.

What skills and industry do you specialize in?

Most of my clients are webshops or companies in the e-commerce sector, as this

is where I have the most affinity. However, for coaching, the specific industry is

not relevant. I am able to adapt my knowledge and expertise to different contexts

and needs.

What is your best soft skill?

My best soft skill is problem-solving. The urge to learn new things and face

challenges is the common thread in my life. It gives me energy and inspires me

to find solutions to complex problems.

What software and tools do you use regularly?

My most used tools are Notion, ChatGPT, Slack, and Google Workspace.

What are your goals for the next year and into the future?

My professional mission is to transparently and skillfully perform the best Google

Ads work for businesses. I do this by sharing my knowledge on LinkedIn,

resources, audits, and coaching. I am committed to your business and provide

the attention you deserve.

My personal goal is that I want to finish my studies while having the opportunity

to continue freelancing and traveling. I’m already going to study abroad in Q1,

2024, so that will be fun.

What has been the hardest thing you dealt with in your career path?

I think the first few years as a freelancer, where I had little to no connection with

others that were freelancing. My classmates and friends didn’t understand why I

wanted to freelance. So, loneliness was my most struggle.

What is the biggest mistake you made that you want others to avoid?

Don’t blindly copy someone else’s tactic or step-by-step instruction. Especially in

Google Ads, where accounts and results differ greatly from each other.

Who are your favorite people in the industry that you follow?

here are many favorite people in the Google Ads scene. My top 3 would be

Miles McNair , ???? Floris de Schrijver & Adriaan Dekker .

Who has had the biggest influence on your career to date?

Biggest cliché ever, but this would have been my parents. I started freelancing

when I was 17. If you are under 18 in the Netherlands, you need to have a

signature from one of your parents if you want to start your own business. Even

before starting my own business, I had the freedom to explore several interests I

had as a kid.

What has been your favorite course that you taken and why?

Ultimate Google Ads Training from Isaac Rudansky . This course was the first

one I took when I started managing my first Google Ads account. This course

really sparked my interest and was already back then outdated haha.

What would you tell yourself or someone who is just starting out in marketing?

Get your hands on an account where you have the possibility to experiment, test

new theories and learn from the results. The second most important thing is to

connect with others from which you can learn from.

If the entire world was listening to you, what would you have to say?

Find the balance between work and life. Life is way more important than work.
