What is your experience of being a female engineer??

My experience of being a female engineer is the same as being an engineer no matter the gender. Being female has not affected my experiences as I am qualified and successful at it. As a mining engineer, I have worked in different types of industries, at both underground and surface operations, and with people of all different backgrounds and experiences.? Working together to achieve our common goals is the best part of the job.???

Many people are unaware of the impact mining plays in their daily lives, so as a mining engineer I can help educate others on how important it truly is.

What inspired you to develop a career in engineering??

I enjoyed math and science as a young kid and was good at them, so I always knew I wanted to become an engineer to help have an impact on the world. I specifically chose mining engineering because raw materials lay the foundation for everything else. Many people are unaware of the impact mining plays in their daily lives, so as a mining engineer I can help educate others on how important it truly is.??

How has Lhoist supported your career??

Lhoist has fostered an environment where I can grow and learn as an engineer. During my career so far with Lhoist, I have been provided with different opportunities and challenges that have helped me become a better engineer.? I can choose what direction to grow in and have helpful mentors to get me there.???

What advice would you give someone who would like to get into engineering or is considering completing an engineering qualification??

Think outside the box and don’t hesitate to challenge the status quo; just because something has been done the same way for years, doesn’t mean it can’t be improved.? Also, don’t be afraid to seek advice from those with more experience.?

Have there been challenges on your road to becoming an engineer which you have faced due to being a woman??If yes, (how) have you overcome these??

No, being a woman has not held me back in any way. My qualifications and experience have enabled me to be a successful engineer.?
