Interview With Adriaan Dekker (Top 50 PPC Expert)

1) Where were you born and raised? Also tell us something unique about yourself.

I was born in Capelle aan den Ijssel in The Netherlands it’s a tiny city next to Rotterdam were my parents lived. I would have preferred to have Rotterdam as my birthplace, but this was the closest hospital. Luckily for me my parents decided to stay in Rotterdam, so I was raised in Rotterdam. Somethings unique about myself is that I can do something really long and consistently an example is that I go to the gym 5-6 times a week already for 10 years. Before going to the gym I used to play soccer!

2) What got you interested in marketing and what was your journey?

When I was 18, I got a lecture on digital marketing. The teacher was telling about how online would only grow further and further. I instantly saw the chances that this space could bring so I directly chose a study in marketing.

3) What skills and industry do you specialize in?

I’m specialized in Google Ads. In that specialization I don’t really have a certain industry I focus on, so I take on lots of clients from different industries. This way I can challenge myself and it keeps my work fun.

4) What is your best soft skill?

Being consistent in something and to delay gratification. Some other examples of being consistent is that I have written a LinkedIn post every day for about 2 years.

5) What softwares and tools do you use regularly?

GA4, Google Ads, Circle, Google Meet, Looker studio and Chat GPT.

6) What are your goals for the next year and into the future?

My goal is to write better content and to create better visuals. With those changes I would like to get to 100.000 followers and 50.000 email subscribers next year.

7) What has been the hardest thing you dealt with in your career path?

Being insecure about your skills and not getting enough clients. You want to have enough incoming leads and feel good about the work you do. I fixed being insecure by learning more and writing about my work. The leads problem was fixed by writing on LinkedIn everyday.

8) What is the biggest mistake you made that you want others to avoid?

Not starting sooner with creating content. I think it can really help if you have a good personal brand. People underestimate the chances you can create and it also doesn’t take that much time.

9) Who are your favorite people in the industry that you follow?

Lot’s of people: Frederik Boysen, Miles McNair , Denie Geertzen ?? , Thomas Eccel , Tomasz Abbott-Wieczorek , Floris van Vleuten , Mike Ryan, Arpan Banerjee , Ruben Runneboom , Bernt Muurling , Bob Meijer , Maximilian vom Eyser , Boris Beceric ? , Caterina Mariani , and Geert Groot . I definitely forgot lots of other people, but these were top of mind.

10) Who has had the biggest influence on your career to date?

That must be my first client that gave me the chance to freelance. I think that if they did not gave me that chance I would not have started with freelancing.

11) What has been your favorite course that you taken and why?

All the courses from Miles McNair and Bob Meijer from PPC Mastery because they go deep into PPC.

12) What would you tell yourself or someone who is just starting out in marketing?

Start creating content for yourself and work on your personal brand. You can test lots of things on your own brand.

13) If the entire world was listening to you, what would you have to say?

Find the things that give you joy and do those things.
