The Intersection of Construction and Tech: Why Cybersecurity Matters Now More Than Ever

As someone who’s worked in the construction industry, I’ve had the opportunity to handle crucial aspects of the project lifecycle, from performing on-screen takeoffs to inputting data into tools like Bluebeam and AccuBid. While these tools make our workflows more efficient, they also bring with them the responsibility of protecting sensitive data.

Every time we bid on a project, we're dealing with important details—quantities, pricing, and project specifications—that need to be safeguarded. One of the most overlooked risks in this process is the threat of phishing emails. Construction companies, just like any other industry, are targets for cyberattacks. There are times when we receive emails from unknown sources, urging us to click on a link. Often, these links contain malicious software designed to steal information or hack into our systems.

The consequences of falling victim to these types of attacks can be significant: compromised bids, stolen project data, or even financial losses. In an industry where trust and reputation are everything, a cybersecurity breach can cause irreparable damage.

As I shift more into the tech space, I’m particularly interested in how cybersecurity can protect industries like construction. Whether you're in project management or handling takeoffs and bids, it’s crucial to understand that technology plays a huge role in ensuring our data stays secure. We can't afford to overlook these threats—securing our systems should be a priority for everyone.

This is a crucial aspect that business leaders sometimes overlook. Thankfully, construction companies are slowly discovering the power of AI in protecting sensitive data, project designs, and operational systems from growing cyber threats. Some companies I have helped with AI initially have this low in their list of priorities.
