Ever seen a Ford Jeep and drooled over it?
Let’s dabble a bit into the story behind the glory.
Henry A. Ford changed the American automobile landscape with the production of highly reliable, low-cost cars. However, he did not have a smooth sailing right from the onset.
With no landmark blueprint to follow, Henry’s goal was doubtful. In fact, his initial two businesses failed. An audacious man, he had been able to convince Detroit businessman, William H. Murphy to provide strong financial support. However, his vision was not producing quick results so the shareholders backed out.
That did not deter Henry, he went back to William and requested for support once more. This time, Murphy brought in an external Manager to supervise Henry’s work. The result was Henry leaving the business.
Looking at what Ford Motors has become today and learning about its start made me nod fervently while thinking, “one man can truly change the world!”

Instead of giving up, Henry continued to prepare and opportunity met him highly prepared. He met Alexander Malcomson, a wealthy Coal magnate who was like-minded. Henry was given the required support and retained his autonomy.
It was then, the Ford Model A was created. It was described as “an instant hit and highly profitable.” That was only the beginning.
It is imperative to state that Henry’s son, Edsel was fully involved in the Model A’s creation.
What if Henry A. Ford gave up after the first or second trial?
Key learning points are:
1. Failure means redirection.
2. Opportunities should always meet you prepared.
3. Position yourself to network effectively with like-minded trail blazers in your field of endeavour.
4. Research and leverage any resources available to aid the realization of your desire.
5. Your close circle must consist of those who encourage your dreams.
“Failure is simply the opportunity to begin again. This time, more intelligently.” - Henry A. Ford
