Interpreting the Gospels and Acts: A Journey and a New Book

?When I began teaching I never thought I would write a book on the Gospels and Acts. It was all about Paul then, but a lot has changed.
All of us who study and teach the Scriptures are in-process, on a journey of sorts. My latest post is about the unlikely journey leading to the publication of Interpreting the Gospels and Acts: An Exegetical Handbook. This book opens up the whole tool box of exegesis and exposition, ranging from the technicalities of textual variants and evaluating Bible translations to writing a sermon that's relevant for a contemporary audience. You can read the first chapter here.
In the post I present an overview of the book and explain my journey, how I came to focus on the Gospel narratives instead of the letters of Paul, and how I came to realize that interpreting the New Testament involves a lot more than Greek exegesis. The post also contains some key pointers for the journey from two who have gone before us, Augustine of Hippo and Calvin of Geneva. I hope this post is helpful. If you like it, share it with others and leave a comment on the site.
The Lord is risen indeed. All the best for the Eastertide season.
