Internships at noon: what to expect

At just over four years old, noon.com is a young digital company. But one that is growing exponentially fast. One of the founding goals of noon is to invest in young, local talent. Internships are a great way to do this.

What is an internship?

An internship is a professional learning opportunity that provides students with meaningful, practical work in their field of study or career interest. Gaining on-the-job experience and tackling real-world challenges can provide people with truly valuable training that will prepare them for their next career moves.

Candidates interested in working as an intern at noon must apply and go through the noon interview process. Internships are usually paid and can last up to three months. After the internship, the company will decide whether to extend the temporary contract, offer a permanent contract, or part ways with the intern.

Rumana Shaikh applied as an intern to noon's Communications & Partner Engagement team at the end of January. Rumana, who is currently studying Marketing, now successfully balances her internship with her studies and works out of noon's Dubai office. She supports Social Media and Communications.

My first month as a noon intern

'I started working at noon as a social media intern. I was greeted at noon by the signature yellow box. Who wouldn't want that? The box was filled with a noon branded water bottle, a Bluetooth speaker, a notebook, a pen, and t-shirts.

I have always wanted to kickstart my career in an organization like noon as it presented an opportunity to contribute to an exciting, fast-moving company. I immediately applied for the internship position when I saw that my skills and goals perfectly aligned with the internship description. noon is very young, which means that it's a place wherein the learning curve is great and steep, especially for someone looking to gain experience and develop their skills.?

Thanks to noon, I no longer believe that an intern's only responsibility is to get coffee. I work in a team that is both encouraging and upbeat. I've been in meetings and brainstorming sessions since day one, and I've been assigned responsibilities based on what we discussed during the interviews. There has not been a single day when I felt I was treated differently than the rest of the team. My ideas and suggestions are valued and considered in the same way that any other employee's ideas and suggestions are.?

I am given a lot of freedom to experiment and develop my creativity, which not all interns receive. And I say this because I'm not only allowed to work in my field of interest but I'm also allowed to experiment with and explore the team's various skill sets.

One of the highlights of my first month was when noon flew our teammates from the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and Egypt to join us in the UAE for three days. It was the first time our entire team was under one roof at the same time. It was nice to see everyone face to face instead of pinging and texting them all the time.?

I was also able to visit TikTok’s office and participate in one of their workshops. I learned a lot about the platform and how to use it to benefit noon.?

I am thankful for the opportunity to work on noon’s mission. I am given support, guidance, and even the space to make mistakes and learn, as well as being pushed to my limits. Every day, I am learning and growing.?

Every step I take is filled with thanks and appreciation. The work culture and environment are extremely friendly, adaptable, and welcoming. Everyone is working toward a common goal: making noon the best place in the Middle East to buy and sell goods.

There's always something going on here, which keeps me on my toes and excited to be a part of it all. I'm grateful to be a part of a company that continues to grow and succeed.'
