“Internships came back as the most important thing that employers look for when evaluating a recent college graduate,” said Dan Berrett, senior reporter at The Chronicle. According to their employers’ needs survey, Internship is “More important than where they went to college, the major they pursued, and even their grade point average”.
Here is my story:
After my graduation with a Master Degree of Arts in Human Resource Management, I was under pressure to get a job with my study field for lots of reasons, not just about money, more less about things that I love to do, my happiness, and my purpose. So, I was like the ant on the oven networking crazy to engage with the opportunities in fact that ended up with no job. As a result, I lost my confidence in my abilities and also I started to question myself what was wrong with me?
One day, my college career coach rang me, "Simon, how are you doing? Come in to see me and I might have a good opportunity for you, and you must get this one!!!" "Oh, great. I try my best." A week later with her coaching and guidance, I got a job with Paramount College Dublin (a corporate training provider www.paramountcollege.ie), as a Learning and Development intern with lots rambling about my past education and working experiences, perhaps some of my personality as well. I made it, my God, I am lucky and so thankful.
Looking back, this internship also provided great opportunities for me to work with my CEO, my managers and lots hard working clients. As a result, I spent a good few months with a group wonderful people to know, to learn, to work, to have laugh/fun, and to grow that was truly amazing experience in my lifetime which I could never ever thank enough. With all the acceptance, trust, believe, and empowerment, I was able to build my self-confidence, and perhaps to create self-belief in this journey which ended slightly at a deeper level.
This opportunity helped me to figure out what job I want to land; what kind of work is satisfying me; the right direction of my future studies; and developing the specific skills I will need and honing my ability to build purposeful, meaningful, fulfilling and successful life. Hold on, what are you talking about? or what all that means? Sorry, I know I am not there yet, but I am on the journey to walk one step closer to do what I love and make the best out of it - my purpose and happiness are helping people to reach their potential and always be kind and compassionate.
If there is an opportunity for you, go for it! Doesn't matter you like it or not, to think thoughtfully about what you can work out and what can't. The best part of it is that you will learn a lot, and you never know what are you going to view until you open the next door or window. I am sure, it will be amazing and you going to be awesome!!!
Be there, be patient, and enjoy it.
So, the answer is YES (I think you might guess that already), and I truly believe you will make it as well.
