Internship Spotlight: Trevon Newmann

Over the next few months, Making Waves College & Alumni Program will be sharing profiles of some amazing young and talented Wave-Makers still in college. Today, we are profiling Trevon Newmann (Richmond's 11th Wave, Senior at Colorado College, and participant in this past summer's American Dance Festival in Durham, NC).

This past summer, Trevon attended the 6-week dance intensive at the American Dance Festival (ADF) in Durham, North Carolina. The program is designed for pre-professionals to get training in various dance techniques from amazing instructors, to improve their network with professionals, and meet other dancers. A great part of the experience is being able to see an abundance of performances from different dance companies.

With financial support from family, his university, and Making Waves, Trevon was able to pay for all the expenses needed to participate in the program. Further, he was able to use his experience at ADF to take him a step closer toward finding career opportunities in the field of dance after graduating next year from Colorado College.

His coach says the following: "Few people, students or adults, are as willing or as open to take on a challenge or an opportunity like Trevon. He lives with his eyes wide open and when he sees an opportunity he keeps track of it so he can remember it later. Then, when time passes and the application opens up, he takes a risk and applies. If complications arise during the process, he works to overcome them. Tre should create his own workshop for college students on how to stay disciplined throughout this process of seeing an opportunity, staying organized with it, applying, interviewing, seeing it through to fruition, and then getting as much out of the experience as possible."

Congratulations Trevon!
