A journey is incomplete if it hasn't ended in a happy and successful note!
Hello to all my readers, here I shall share with you, my journey of six months internship as a data science intern with the Sales Enablement Team of Hitachi Vantara.
At 10:00 AM, on 2nd December 2019, I dressed up in formals and entered the office at Hyderabad and I was very worried about the first impression mantra. I was guided by the Support Staff for the signing of confidential documents and followed by a quick intro. I met my mentor Anujyoti Datta for the first time. He is one of the sweetest Bengali (to be very specific), I have ever met. I also met other great leaders of the team: Fisal Ali Khan, Sathyanarayana Sarma, Shynish Meladath, Narendra Kolhe, Gaurav Joshi, Gopi Mandava and Srinivas Chennoji. It was great meeting all of them. At the end, I met Sreenivasa Etla, he is a man of charismatic personality and full of insights. The day started with understanding the different projects that I would be assigned to and the work culture of the company. I learnt the team work and role of all the unique players in it.
Around 1:30 PM, we went for lunch and I became a biryani addict over there. I tried all sort of biryani. The teammates thought I never had a good biryani before. I was started to be known as Biryani Boy. It was a fun day with a lot of learning.
My first project was a very challenging one and under the guidance of my mentor Anujyoti and Shynish, I learnt a lot. The best part of being with a Sales Department is that, not only you learn more about the approach to handling data for prediction, but also see the current market scenario and the real updates that is currently going on. Fisal helped me to look at things from the business perspective, which people with only technology mindset, generally tend to miss. Narendraji would encourage me to see into GCP as the companies are going on cloud and using the frameworks for faster results. Sharmaji would help me in the formulation of the documents as the write up of business proposal is a lot different from a basic college report. Gopi, Chennoji and Gaurav would help me in the understanding of the presentation style and detailing. It was a great experience.
Unfortunately, I didn't get much time to take a group photograph with everyone, but here you see Sharmaji, a person epitome of knowledge and hard work.
Apart from work, I learnt a lot about corporate life and non-technical skills. There were celebration times, I met a lot of talented and energetic people. There were sports competitions, dance performances, singing rehearsals and comedy nights.
It was just six months interaction, but the amount of exposure I got was unbelievable.
The various life events I witnessed were great. Some to be specific:-
- * The First Anniversary Party of Employees
- * The Prize distribution ceremonies for the best performances in Annual Festival of the Organization.
My second project was equally great and I started it under Vijay Patil. I met his team and learnt the new trending technologies in the market ,related to data science. I also met Ramprasad Jilla while working with Vijay and learnt about automation using UIPath. I understood a lot about the cloud and chatbot connectivity. I also from time to time, participated in Hackathons, Meet ups, Seminars and twice as a Data Science Speaker. It immensely broadened my horizon in data science.
I joined the toastmaster club of Hitachi and got an opportunity to brush up my speaking skills and interacting abilities. I met there impeccable speakers like Ravesha Bakshi(President of Toastmaster), Aapsha Sharma, Aniruddh Shah, Abhimanyu Wazir, Sarthak Bhatnagar and Pranay Raut. I would like to mention about Animesh Mahapatra for his great mentoring abilities. I had participated as a club member in many college toastmaster events and also in companies like Virtusa, Amazon, Accenture and Webrock. I was basically thrilled by the great opportunity and talent showcasing , I was exposed to. I learnt a lot about the various leadership styles and speaking techniques. It was a great experience for me.
My third project which I got, was assigned under Sandeep Seerapu and Jaikishan Bukalsaria. Working on companies data and understanding the employee behavior is a crucial learning I had under them. Not only they helped me to see the greater picture as an employee in the current scenario, but they also motivated me the attributes a market leader should have in the era of cutting edge technology. Learning to use Keras and Kaggle dataset with ample amount of doubt clearing sessions, really pushed me up on my learning abilities.
I also got a chance to interact with many friendly seniors , those who guided me in many ways. I got to know the hierarchy of the organization and how the whole process is carried out from inception of a project to delivery. I enjoyed being a part of the Annual Celebrations at Hitachi. Great memories and learning.
It was a pleasure to meet many interns from various colleges from my batch. It helped me to get to know more like-minded people. We used to meet at the lunch time for the discussion on various topics ranging from cricket to new gadgets and technologies. It was great to meet all of them and see the progress. I really enjoyed the company of Poornendu Shukla, Harsh Singhal and Srikanth Bussa.
My final project was not from office because of the pandemic and I was happy to get a learning opportunity under Vijay again with Harsh Multani. I worked on data extraction using computer vision and the NLP on top of it. It was a great learning. The whole process was enchanting and magical for me. It developed me to a person that I am today. Thanks a lot to Nidhi Shrivastava for seeing the talent in me and giving me the role.
My internship ended as work from home. It was a real delight to see such highly professional people giving me impactful feedback and growth tips. It was a wonderful journey for me. Thanks Hitachi Vantara. I shall never forget what you have given me.
